OK, i am sorry to miss my first ever Road Rocket Rumble but i had signed on to help do a Model T Speedster tour last week in Rockvile Indiana. We took old "Blue" and my " Simple T" speedster out last wed . The tour was driven thurs, fri, sat and sunday. ( Yes we did get wet, muddy AND sit thru a storm or two) BUT it was a blast from the past. All 22 cars were model T Bangers ( one A did slip in) and we drove a ave or 85-100 miles per day. When we arrived some were already to get going.......
A trailer ??? the A Chevy head on a T engine , makes lots of noise................ Kentucky boys lost part of their shot gun on the rough roads ??? Moonshiners i think .............. Did i say it also rained ???????? Ever see 7 lug wheels ??? A " chicks " car . Russ Potters grand daughter , drives it pretty good....... Can you believe they even had show cars ??? Chrome exhaust , head and polished brass every where. Any one want the job of cleaning this up Monday ??? A very mint body , stock ( hopped up ) banger ........nice car ,,,, and theres more .............
That yellow coupe is a cool ride. It was at the tour in Rockford a few years back. The RPU is pretty neat, too.
Thers some neat old shops out in them woods .....Wallace T Garage ..... Nothing like boucing sideways in a T full throttle up a gravel hill side !!!!!!!!! We met for breakfast each morning and a tour book had our daily routes in it. We also ate very good during our travels. World famous " Bubbas Rib Eyes "............... Boy howdy , lunch at the " Wallace Grand Ole Opry ".........yum A tour of the Rockville Ind old jail, free ice cream lured us in the jail....... Main drag in Rockville , ya gotta eat here !! Pork chops big as your head and very cold Miller High Life......even had some bears in there........ Our hosts the Potters ( at least part of them )......... finally a dry road way ..........flat land etc..........corn and more corn...... And then (sat) on to the Newport Hill Climb in Newport Indiana. The Hill climb is a large event in Indiana ( 100,000 folks in three days) and is held the first sunday in October. This year marks the 100th year !!! Look it up at newport hill climb .com thats where you will find our crew each oct ........come on down for a free moon pie !!!!!
there is nothing more exhilarating than 50 or so speedsters on a shotgun start at 7 am in the cool and grey.
Jim Potter unloaded the Hill record holder 22.56 and ran the hill to show how as everyone got a shot at the hill. Bad to the bone model T !!! Some show and tell pieces.......This one belongs to Jim Roof .......his grandfather invented the "Roof" head for a T.......... All lined up in Newport........... All got to run the hill and got a plaque that said " I pulled the Hill in High gear "!!! Some did , some didnt !! Most of these cars had a front mounted distributor, aluminum cylinder head, kevlar bands , turbo 400 clutches, stipes camshafts and few had model A cranks. Great tme for sure............. Next year this event is to be held in Cinn Ohio area ..........
