i have to ask though . why is the car still there after a year and 4 attempts ? i would pull it out and take it somewhere who knows wtf they are doing ... just a thought .
Where was he flaking this car? I can see why he would have problems if he was painting it in the States..He should have flaked it in Australia...EVERYONE knows flake lands on the other side in Australia....jeeze
He should know better....everybody shooting flake just knows to have your gun tip magnetized so the metal flakes all line up in perfect symmetry as they fly out of the gun. It's worked for me for decades....
I new everyone would get a laugh out of that, and somegreat replies. Had another so called hot shot a few years back that knew it all but kept asking how to shoot clear without runs, said he had tried evrything, so I told him to go the paint suppliers or home depot and get some "THICKER" and make sure it does not have any thinner in it, eliminates runs every time.. My supplier threatened to quit selling to me if I sent any more people in looking for Thicker. But always a good laugh. Keep em comming guys some great stuff.
UPDATE: Flake makers deny any flake shipped upside down, but rumors of a major flake recall is bound to happen so as not to cause panic and wide spread pandemic of upside down flake distribution. More on your late local news!
Here in the great white north, we paint in January - the colder the better.. The result is the legendary "snowflake" paint job...... .....no two are alike.
Dude is probably using Post or General Mills Flakes. In the 60's we only used Kellogs flakes and I still stick with that.
It happens all the time...guy opens the box of flake on the wrong end, it's all downhill after that...
I know this is an FNG question but I'll ask anyway. I've gotten good advise from this thread but I'm still a bit confused. I either need to have the car upside down in the booth, or hold the gun upside down, correct? Then make sure I'm using gravity-fed flake in my HVLP. Do I spread the butter on the car or on the flakes individually before I mix them? I'm on the Atkins diet so I hope I can substitute margarinne. Then when I roll the cor into the oven, what temp should I put it on to bake and for how long?
We had a carpenter doing some work in the shop. I noticed that he would through every other nail back into the box. I asked him why and he said that the points were on the wrong end.
I can't believe no-one has posted the correct answer yet. Anyone knows when dealing with upside down flakes that you just need to rotate the air 180 degrees coming from the nozzle. Just use a coiled airhose with an uneven number of coils like the one below to correct the issue...
AHA! Another user of the famous Kirby Spray Gun System. In East Texas spray guns are outlawed, only pine tops may be used to paint your car or truck.
I'm glad you remember the super flake oath.Always wanted to use English flake just to see what happens LOL
I've seen that you need a bigger tipped gun and also an agitator cup is best for flake (House of color website has some specs). Personally, I start the run as close to the top as I can, then cut it off at the bottom.....
You just install a flake flip tip on the gun.....you know....the ol' flake flip tip routine? Say that 5 times fast. Good thread. I needed a chuckle. Thanks fellars.
