That is just too cool! I have been inspired, I found these yesterday and I still don't know what I will ultimitly do with them , but I will get them running.
I wish some guy would call me up and tell me he's throwing out an 8BA with dual carbs and an overhead conversion
If you don't use it, I would be happy to put it in the suicide mower/go cart I'm building for the nephews!
WOW that is REALLY COOL I have a similar one too, It is bone stock though, nothing fancy about it at alllllll, but yours my friend ROCKS!!!!!
Those motors witht he kick starter are very probably out of washing machines. Which in old pictures is why you see them on the porch.
Spinzzy, I am just north of you 30 miles or so. Wish someone had given ME that beautiful little engine!!! How cool is that??? Neatest little thing I have seen in awhile...
Im pretty sure its in like the pre-first amendment, ie the 0.5 amendment that all cool OHV converted Brigs motors MUST be put in a go cart. Honest. Doc.
Could be... I thought maybe you were speaking of the "Steam and Power" show in Battleground at the Battlefield... But I think that is in July. Seriously, the engine is REALLY cool. I would be concerned about breaking it by putting it in an old go kart, but then again, most anything there can likely be hand built again if necessary. I wonder if any of the old timers from the old local high schools in the area would remember that as an auto shop project, or if it was a seriously modified kart/quarter midget engine? Seems it would have been one or the other. Enjoy, and keep us updated!
Thats what I thought it was a highschool project or something if I mounted it to somthing it would be for show my big butt not going to ride it
Wow! That thing is just way too cool! And it runs. Too bad NHRA has specifically banned OHC/OHV conversions for Jr Dragsters... Needs to lose the muffler tho.
Spinzzy, I feel bad that someone"hotrodded" a perfectly good "stock" engine. So i will help you out. I have a stock engine like that I will ship to you and you can send me that one to properly dispose of. That thing is way cool. I think I would look for an ancient bicycle to mount it on, to look like a very early motorcycle. Whatever you do with it, it is cool. Someone spent a lot of time and headscratching building it. Glad it has a good home, it would have been a real shame if it were landfilled. Good score! Alden
Cadzook tree'd me. I'd look for a vintage bike and make your own Whizzer-style conversion. It's interesting that it is mounted to a finished piece of wood--it was obviously set up as a display piece. Maybe an engineering model/prototype, or it was restored and set up to display, or some home shop machinist decided to do the conversion on it and then displayed it. The velocity stacks tell me it was VERY well thought-out, as that's a pretty minor detail to build in the whole conversion, but the builder spent enough time to make them as well. A very complete design. With the dual carbs and OHV conversion, I wonder if the Speedway Motors museum would have any info on it? If you do NOTHING with it, you must at least set it up in your shop for display. Put a little throttle cable on it, a couple small balls with a chain to plug the velocity stacks, and a nice cover over it to keep the dust off and keep it looking nice. Canvas or denim--something that breathes so it doesn't trap moisture. That kicks ass. -Brad
