look at some internal framing from aircraft; the holes are rounded if not round, and usually dished or bead-rolled to add serious stiffness back in that mass removal deleted. dang near nothing on an airplane has a sharp 90' radius in it anywhere, and airplanes are the babydaddy of hot rods.

  2. Square holes would sure make it weak AND ugly. You'd get cracks forming at the corners and the whole thing could collapse or buckle eventually. I think those triangle holes are kind of ugly too and look like they belong under an old bridge. Not really a cool look for a car. Sorry.

WOW I was going to post that there is a reason airplanes have round windows, but it looks like we have that covered.

Plus wouldn't it be way more work to make square holes rather than round ones?

Used to make square pegs for when you have round holes.

  9. Cut the frame out of this stuff

With a gentle diagonal push, you can fold it flat so you can get the car 5-1/2" lower.

  14. The Comet is still operational as the RAF Nimrod. Although they are being refit due to some age related airworthiness issues at the moment. The metal fatigue issues were fixed but it was too late as the bad press hurt the planes sales. The 707 came out in the late 50's and BOAC bought them. One carried me to Canada when I emigrated from England.

Is that where the word "nimrod" came from?

At any rate...I would not do square holes. I do think ovals look good though.

"its hip to be a square" -huey lewis
but he never knew what he was singing about.....

  23. I believe that was sarcasm...

If you can make the squares strong enough like the guys said by rounding the corners then you'd actually be cutting more weight out since a square has more surface area than a circle of the same diameter.. all in all it's your car bro.. If you like the look of it as long as you can make it safe i say go for it.. Maybe see if the guy above could do another CAD drawing for you with squares and see if you like it..

    Inlighten us...

  25. Nimrod was the King of Mesopotamia an purportedly the great grandson of Noah and was reknowned as a great hunter. RAF Nimrods are sub hunters hence the name.

Not sure where "Nimrod" as an insult came from other than the obviusly strange sounding name it is.

  26. I think you mean "enlighten"
