Hey, I need you guys to help me out with a dilemma. My '54 Panel 'Kripple Kart' is now getting paint. Now the original idea was; silver flake scallops with a candy red outline over black, as the truck was black anyway. We all thought that would be cool, and easy. Now the problem is, the way Jim, my paint guy decided to go about it was to lay a silver flake base coat in the appropriate areas, then mask off the scallops, and lay a black top coat over the whole body. Well, the scallops got more complex, until eventually he decided to base coat the whole hood and sides. Here's our quandary; Just look at this flake! Do I really want to paint over that? I'm tempted to flake the whole frickin' thing, and put some red candy scallops, with black pin stripes in strategic places, and then just clear over the top. My heart says 'Yey, be a jerk, flake the shit out of it!' and my head says 'No, stay with the black, it'll be too much.' Vote 1 for 'F**k 'em in the ear, flake, flake, flake!' Vote 2 for 'Be subtle asshole, stick with the black.' Thanks in advance, Paul. p.s. Bear in mind the flake in these shots is just base, not flatted or cleared.
Maybe sorry, couldn't resist. I think the silver flake looks a hell of a lot cooler than the old black paint job.........but it is not my car....your choice
Wow! Now that's unique! In a good way. Looks like a friend's bass boat, except that's dark cherry red flake. Is suppose the best time to add scallops and clear is right away, or one might want to live with it for a while and see how one likes it. Looks nifty from here.
I thought the black over flake was a nice idea. Jim showed us the bike tank example & I think it's bitchin'. Whatever Jim does will be cool tho'
As long as he does it right (and it looks like he is, there is clear over the flake and it doesnt stand up right?) I think the lack would look awesome with flaked scallops. Maybe lightly dust some silver flake back over the whole body for a starry night feel? I'd Fade the candy red inwards on the scallops and make it real real red.
Whoa, that's alot of flake! Hahaha..... Too much IMO...painting a solid over it to cover it in spots looks KILLER, as it tends to add a drop shadow, because of all the clear...if that makes sense. Don't be a jerk.....haha!
I Like black,BUT that silver flake is way nicer and much more original.Just my opinion but I'd keep it.
1...1...1...1...1...1...! Flake all the way daddy-o! That would be fantastic. Tone it down with the red candy scallops and maybe some pin striping if you have to. Looks way cool already. You know in your heart which ear to...'em in now don't you? Michael
I like it...but I'm kind of in agreeance with some of the other guys about it being too much silver. Silver flake is kind of like chrome...it works best as an accent. Here is an idea...how about masking out your scallops and spraying candy of your choice over it and then stripe the scallops. Here are a few color examples with some quick scallops thrown on.
With a name like "Kripple Kart", I would think you would have to flake the shit out of it. This photoshops look awesome
I have to agree with 1-shot, use the silver in the scallops and put a candy over the rest. My suggestion for candy color is brandywine, maybe throw a little red and gold pearl on top of the flake and under the candy, hell even a bit of red flake too!
The flake alone definately looks unfinished I agree adding candy over the whole thing and doing some scallops will probably keep you happy longer the flake alone fades fast!
