I've always admired the total lack of fear some young builders exhibit. I kept looking around for tools in Ray's shop. I saw a welder, a hammer and not much else. The rod that Ray is building in his garage has some of the most interesting Sprint Car and old Indy Car inspired design features. Please look closely at these photos and strip away any fear you might have concerning your lack of tools. Ray's company is called Hammered Metal, if you like what you see and need to contact Ray, his phone number is 734-544-4783. Mike TPG
Very nice build. We race stockcars and there are lots of items that can be used in a rod builds. Are you going to use a coil spring setup or a torsion bar setup.I love the new ideas used in this build and quality of the work. Keep up updated. 68ragtop
Has a definite oval track vibe to it. It will be interesting to see this one come together. Keep posing progress. Frank
Threads like this are why I came to the HAMB. I love seeing someone put skills together to create traditional artwork. AWESOME !!!!!!! Hope to see more in progress updates as it comes along
Damn fine work! Detroit has a TON of talent here & guys like Ray are working to make it the new epi-center of the rodding world. Mike- I'll bet that you didn't have the heart to tell him that he put the steering wheel on the wrong, bloody side, right?
I'm curious why he didn't put the split in the lower rail to get the rear in and out and how he is going to address the slots in the quarter panels?
I had to come back and look again. This car is going to be amazing. So much better than an old frame, some "rare" parts and a flying eye ball decal. And no spider webs, iron crosses or skulls in sight. Gary
I see Todd in those photos. Shouldn't he have been at home in his garage?? So looks like you are corrupting him, keeping him from his own build deadline. Ray's build looks awesome. From the area code I see he's local, where abouts?
We just had to go see Ray's build. Todd went to sleep as soon as he got home. He was done for the day when we went by. Ray is about 1/2 mile from Depot Town. Ray's father Gene Kurlonko used to build my Go Kart engines. He worked on just about anything you could race. Looking at what Ray does with just hand tools I know for sure he's part of Gene's gene pool. Mike TPG
The floor pan is pretty unique. It's smooth under the whole rod. There's going to be a really cool set up to contain the rear suspension and allow movement. I'll post update photos as Ray moves forward. Mike TPG
