And they say you can't find them any more! This guy had it on the side of his barn being used as an actual gas tank since 1950!!! It is an all aluminum, unsplit, USAAF P38 tank. Measures 36"x13', the biggest one they made to the best of my knowledge. Bonneville much? We already have one for our tanker project so I don't know the fate of this one yet. It may end up going down the road. Enjoy!! (and stop thinking they aren't out there!) -drZ
I knew there was one more out there but NOW they MUST be all gone. That is a hellofa find and nice shape too. congrats
How much? I am in town with you. I have had aspirations of building a VW powered tanker and heading over the hill to run it. I own a small steel fab shop and drive a grey and white Single Cab. You have prolly seen me running around town.
My Buddy's grandpa had one in his barn. He bought it after the war to make into a pig feeder and never did anything with it. It was a 12 footer aluminum. Bobby Green got it, this was like 3 months ago.
Kind of o/t but when I was in the military (many wars ago) we had one of those mounted on a wooden stand, we cut a hole in the top so it could be filled with water and used it as a water storage tank complete with gravity feed for our water supply in the battalion aid station. Everyday our interpreter would tool in on his little Honda moped and park under the tank so the bike would be in the shade. One bright shiny day the moped was in it's customary parking spot and the guys came along with a water bull and refilled the tank for us. About an hour later there was a horrendous crash and after we all crawled out from wherever we had dove we discovered the moped doing an imitation of a manhole cover under the tank. The weight of the water got to be too much for the wooden framework supporting it and the whole thing crashed to earth. We thought it was hilarious, our interpreter failed to see the humor.
That last one of these that I heard surfaced was down at the Big-3 in San Diego. Anybody know anything about that? -drZ
I've built a couple dozen fiberglass P-38's over the years, and I've seen a lot of tanks that were supposed to be P-38's. None ever were. Your's is the real deal. Congratulations on your new acquisition.
Dont use us to get excited then PM and tell me its on Ebay.... in a PM he let me know he wants $19500.00 .... Awesome!
