The big 3 have a lot at stake in Nascar. They spend millions of dollars ( I have heard it's around 130 ) to get people to see their Charger,Fusion or Monte Carlo go to the winners circle. Now Mr France wants the " car of tomorrow " That in itself is a long dicussion but now that Toyota is coming and dumping who nows how much to win, whats not to say that the big 3 say fuck it and leave.

    Thread hijack in progress......

Them ain't really going to be toyotas, anyway. You could toss a toyota sticker on Dale Jr's car and it would be the same car...... it doesn't matter. Anyone who thinks that those are actually Fords, Chevys, and Dodge cars is a just race fan and not a really a car guy. If you are dumb enough to actually buy a Monte Carlo because that decal went faster than the other decal.....well, there's an ass for every saddle, but my guess is that if the carmakers really think that...well, I guess their advertising gurus are dumb shits, too.

That's not to say that there's not a lot of real good technology in those cars. They are really amazing purpose-built, hand made, race cars. And the drivers are talented. But they are not in any way based on stock cars built by US automakers. Heck, if Peugeot entered NASCAR, the damn car would look exactly the same as every other car wearing a Ford, GM, or Dodge sticker because it would be the same race car, built on the same templates.

If the car makers were really important, you'd see real cars out there again and not these one-size-fits-all tube frame shellls with changeable front end stickers. That's why it's the Busch and Winston series and the cars say Viagra or Tide instead of Ford or Chevy........;) Hell, maybe that's the problem with Detroit. If Ford, Chevy, and Dodge would race real cars again, they might actually sell a few more.

OK, I'm done 'jackin this thread. We return you now to your regular programming.....

Well, I am STILL gonna put a 455 in my '48 Olds and run black wall radials on it. Why? because I love the torque, think the engine is cool and am too cheap to buy Cokers............

WHAT?? your not putting a flathead in that Comet????...lol

Using ideas from a Fiat, or Auto Union, or Talbot Lago is no more OR LESS traditional hot rod than a Toyota V8 (and BTW, I'm putting a Lexus 4.0 DOHC V8 in my '63 mercury Comet convertible).

dont asume new guys to this site are new to rodding ,they are probably new to using the internet etc ,ive copped a bit of newby shit here and i think its against the spirit of hot rodding ,when i see a rodder broken down on the side of the road ill stop and help but im not going to leave him stranded if hes not running the combination i believe is "trad"i think alot of guys are just to hung up on period parts and look and "back in the day the used whatever parts made them go fast not what all your buddies told you to run ,i prefer trad style rods and dont like the look of the lexus engine but if you want to run one i dont care cause at least you are driving a rod! and not some faceless econo box,if you are hung up on traditional parts i believe your no better than the restorers that give rodders so much grief for moifying their rides!but that s just my opinion ,rodders are a tight nit bunch but they can be amongst the biggest back stabbers around it is this reason i will never join a rod or car club as ive seen it happen so many times ,if some one wants to run something different let him go ,but be carefull it may just blow the doors off your period perfect traditionally correct ride ,i was like this myself but have been taught a few lessons by some brilliant self taught engineers open your eyes you might be surprised by what you see!!!!

Gudday people thought I might wade into this. I have 5 of these Toyota v8's They are not a copy of a chrysler or come out in trucks etc, they where only produced for the Japanese market in the Toyota Century. I have one in my Model A roadster with 4/71 and 5 speed. Motor and box weighs 190kg and is poking out 433BHP at the wheels and can rev like F1. car. Takes a very stout blown BB to out run it!! Heaps of these motors down here in New Zealand and Aussie. Perhaps not a motor for the purists but I can swap my 337 flathead lincoln in when ever I want! Cheers:)

  13. Not to stir up the sh*t again, but I have long loved the idea of a small aluminum V-8 in the front of my '29 A....
Does anyone know how the power of one of these Toyota "Hemi" V-8s would compare to a Buick 215? And what one might do for a transmission?

One just came up on Ebay, about an hour from where I live.

3.4 liter, complete from carb to bellhousing.

Any constructive input is greatly appreciated!

You may find you're better off to start a new thread or PM some of the knowledgable folks from this one, as I suspect most replies to this thread are going to relate to the initial post rather than yours.

If you reference back to this thread in your new one, it should even appease the "do a search" police.

  15. I tried a new thread (with reference to this thread) but it got deleted for not being traditional enough. Oh well...

I just wanted to know (as there are at least a couple people on the HAMB running these motors) if there are any good suggestions for manual transmissions, and what people did for a flywheel.

I have searched the previous threads on here, and googled...
any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
