How come no one uses the lucas spot for their headlites anymore they were the real trick in the old days but never mentioned now. they have to be up there with appletons and tube grilles...........
I had a set of Lucas "pencil beam flamethrowers", but when one burned out and I discovered they were $70 each to replace..... Well, I dont use 'em anymore. When I first got them, they were $12 each, but that was back in the late 70's... Big $$$ back then, when a standard sealed beam was about $3
Lucas is the Dark Lord of electrics........... Ever wonder why The British like warm beer? Lucas made refrigerators...
I have run the old pencil-beams on a few sports cars - quite pricey and not anywhere as good as surplus 14V landing lights. Had a set of PL700s I installed in my Excalibur - buddy of mine backed into it and broke one of the lenses (they were not sealed beam) - he was stunned by the replacement price (PL700s were a high-zoot tri-bar lamp). The best driving lights 'back then' were PA Jod and Hella - this was just as Iodide bulbs were coming out - put sealed beams to shame....but the US laws at the time required sealed beams....guess I've been a scofflaw my whole life. dj
Is this what you mean? We always called them Flame Throwers. This my 62 vette. I converted the bulbs to a new style and they give a LOT of light. BB
Exactly what I mean, these young, uns obviously know nuthin!...... I have them on my 58, they are a look rather than a necessity like the flathead.......
