My computer crashed yesterday. As such, I'm typing from my wife's machine and fighting off PJ and Miller as I do so... This is gonna have to be a fast post - quick and easy. I don't know if I can manage much more than a paragraph or two before these ...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
It still creeps me out to see 49-51 Merc with trim, chrome letters, hood ornaments, trunk latches, door handles, big windows and that 4X4 stance. Do not resist the squarepants!!!
So that would be an "un-nosed, un-decked" Merc, huh? Even on day one, '49 Mercs got the girl's attention!
Those old ads are great. The narrarators voices for ads, info movies and news at the theater were perfect. They were part of the sound of the era. The Mercs and Fords of the year were revelutionary. IFS and no vestiges of pre-war design, the nation was looking only forward, and the view was fantastic. Even that "rough back country road" looks pretty damn fine. Personally, a lowered stock Merc looks the best to me.
Ryan, Your post was missing an item! The kids are young enough still that you could have posted the "I like chicks in bras" Alliance Membership poster.
kinda wierd to recall seeing that on TV when they were first out! gggg I liked the 46 thru 48 mercs as a kid, and the 49 mercs an fords I had to get used to.
Cool seeing the '49 Lincoln get a little love too... Its no Merc, but you can buy em cheaper and make em look pretty good once you ditch the grill!
I wonder if they thought that a few years after they came out we'd be doing stuff to them like this. (these are both '49 4dr's)
I wish i saw this incredible film before my Merc gathering. Would of been great to had that playing on a big screen inside the building ! Neat stuff !
"Cool seeing the '49 Lincoln get a little love too... Its no Merc, but you can buy em cheaper and make em look pretty good once you ditch the grill!" You don't have to ditch the grille...just clean it up a little!
