Can Old Mallory Distributor work w/ 12 volt system?

    Hey guys, might be a stupid question, but I have a Mallory Distributor for a model A and its gonna run a 12 volt system instead of 6v....can I still use the Distributor w/o cahnging points or internals of distributor ? thanks !!!!

    should be no problem... seeing as how most points systems i know of run on 6v anyhow, not 12v. they only use 12v to get going, then they run on 6v

    Yes figured it would be fine with ballast resistor !!! Thanks , just wanted to make sure.

    The points make and break, the coil is either 6 volt or 12.

    The only thing that is voltage sensitive is the capacitor.
    To be on the safe side get a condensor from a Fourcylinder 12 volt engine.

    when you get the coil be shure to ask if it needs a ballast resistor.

    The ballast resistor is wired so when the starter is running the voltage goes directly from teh battery to the coil, and when the engine is running the voltage go thru the ballast resistor.

    Thes way its always running on 7 volts ca, creating good sparks when cranking the engine..

    Yeah I know this partticular one needs a resitor. As for capacitor is that same as condensor?
