I am going to look at a 53 f100 this week and it will be a semi worktruck like to get engines, parts, and not really towing. I have a backup 06 xterra I can borrow if need be. Just curious what everyone's work truck was.
79 3/4 T Chev LT1 stroked 383, factory aluminum heads, edlebrock 750, lumpy cam, 375 hp, 13 mpg. turbo 400 trans. only 125k original miles and everything works
I own the very fist V 10 Doge ram ever sold. Order number ....0001. I use it for hauling , travel, racing (turns 15.80s ) and it will be 15 years since I got it next month. It was built Feb 25 94 and was according to Chrysler the first V 10 truck ever ordered from them. I waited 7 months from order to delivery. It has been a wonderful truck these almost 15 years and has been to Alaska, Yukon NWT Oregon Wash State Florida , Texas even Bonneville. It is now due for a body job but otherwise no troubles. It is, Believe it or not very good on fuel too and will run between 18.5 and 20.6 MP Imp Gallon on the highway. It brings a smile to my face everytime i drive it including this afternoon. I hope to still have it in another 15 years. It isnt real old but it will be! Don Here it is at Luskville NHRA dragstrip laying a beating on track owner Arnie Malcolm who was so bold as to challenge me to a race against his 454SS Chevy truck. I beat him by 1.86 seconds.
I started down the same road and ended up spending all my time and money on the work truck. I had a 59 el camino that was supposed to haul parts to build my other car, and it didn't work out that way. I was lowered, sealed, and shaved with a 60 merc grill
1968 F250 Camper Special Ranger Edition almost 290.000 miles.. but we did some work on it. Factory disc brakes, A/C and power steering, pretty unique for a truck from the '60s. Lot's of weight, going and stopping power, noisy as can be and the worst gas mileage ever, but I love driving it.
mines a 95 Dodge dually 4x4 diesel,345,000km, its cheap to run and will haul or tow anything I tell it to
'95 F150, 300 I6, M50D 5 speed, 03 Cobra center section with 3.73's (got it and had it installed for 50 bucks through some shadiness at the Ford dealer I used to work at )... 227k original miles. Never had valve cover off, never rebuilt anything. Just clutches, brakes and oil. Best truck i'll ever own. I put the last 127k on it in just the past couple of years...
Me, "Work"? Work for me is goin' to the store, to the furniture mart, honey-do-s, etc. since I retired. Drive her every day, rain/snow or shine. I hauled off some scrap to the iron-yard last fall, work residue from Nash Hot Rod frame/crossmember projects, the girls at the scales all came running out, wanting a ride.
1992 Ford F250 4X4, 7.3 IDI w/Banks Turbo. 5 speed manual 4:10's. Just turned 150,000 this week and have changed most glow plugs and that's it. It's been a dandy.
I rode in one of those truck in the hillcountry for a hundred miles... So how did you get that thing to where it could tow a trailer? What kind of mods do you have done to that engine? My friends truck was well tuned and had great compression... it just wouldn't pull itself at 45mph up more than a couple of degrees incline. Texas Hillcountry pretty much ate it up and spit it out. Beautiful truck, but I just had to ask.
Used to be an 02. Z-71, its still in the company in an effort to help out our economy i just went and got a late 08 GMC Z-71
2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4X4 Hemi. Pulls my 26' enclosed car trailer like there's nothing back there. Gets 20-21 mpg on the highway (not pulling trailer).
'99 Silverado Z-71 w/5.3, extended cab. 157K and I still enjoy driving it. It will tow everything I have, at decent speed, and still get 11mpg w/7550lbs behind it. Without a trailer and load, it gets me 16/17 in town, 18-19 on the road w/3.73 gears. If I'm close to home, I still have my 78 Chev C-20 w/454 for big loads.
Here's mine! All-year-round go-anywhere do-anything daily driver work truck...'64 El Camino. 283 Powerglide w/ am radio and heater. No frills but a lot of fun to drive. I found him left for dead in a guy's back yard a couple of years ago and kinda adopted it. His name is "Lumpy" and has become one of my all-time favorite rides. Everybody asks me, When are you going to fix it up? I say, Never...I like it just like it is.
