Hey Thanks, I have definitely got a lot of response but after being on the cover of Rod & Custom I may want to switch things up a bit. I have a plan I have in mind that I want to do. The truck used to be an old State of Idaho Public Works truck and I might primer it and put it back to the way it was? We'll just have to wait and see.

what was the point in askin for other opinions if you already had your mind made up to re-do it??? or did you just want to let us know it was on the cover of R&C? anyway... it looks like either way, it will still be badass!!!

I'd blow it apart and repaint it. Either a good commercial truck color or something wild, either way. Gary

It'd look way cooler and more period correct, and better if you painted it. I too vote commercial solid truck color, something appropriate for the period. Maybe a light orange/yellow, like a road grader! John Deere orange comes to mind. I saw the feature, and wonder how on earth you keep it from rusting, and I don't mean just surface rust, after having on the salt?

    Nice truck.

One more for the "paint it shiny" group- and I like the International Red idea. Cool ride as is though, I don't know I'd be able get out of it long enough for a nice paint job....

I voted 'primer it' cause you need to primer it before you paint it.

Yeah! I never thought about painting it shiny and just let the paint wear through maybe to the primer. Im just trying to get a feel for what I should do. Hey im only 19 and could use some constructive criticism, from older hot rodders. i have never seen the International Red. Maybe someone post a picture? OR Orange, I like that idea. :) I just dont know, I have no made my mind up.

I vote for primer; either light (platinum) gray, zinc chromate aircraft green or that buff yellowish color. Just not dark gray or black.
I think they mean International Harvester Red lil. It's a darker red than fire engine.

I had one , got mad at it, cut it up with a saw-all and took it to the dump. kept the hood and the dash.

Paint it with something other than flat black or primer.

Light gray would be good but so would a lot of colors.

I've thought about painting one of my projects the IH red from International Harvester just because I happen to like the color and it isn't expensive if you buy it from the tractor/equipment dealer. Even their spray can stuff is tough and will stand up to a lot of abuse if properly prepped.

What ever color you do it in I'm dead sick and tired of flat black and primer and that comes from a guy who has had his truck in primer for over 25 years.

As you are 19, If you keep the truck long enough it will morph through several colors and builds along the way.

cheap paint fades faster for that "old" look, but red looks pink.

My vote- White semi gloss. White hides the imperfections well, which is why commercial/fleet trucks are almost always this color

Just as an example of the Zinc Chromate Green; here is a pic of a Hamber's interior. {My apologies for not being able to credit the owner, but it's an awesome piece of work (I saved the pic afterall)} I think this real utility / military look would go well with your black artillary wheels with maybe a dash of carefully and tastefully applied black accent here and there.
That's a sweet little truck you got right there. And your only 19?
