So I picked this 54 ford dash up for my A... After cutting, whacking, and trimming, this is where I'm at..This thing is still pretty big inside the car.. I think i need to lower the top and cut out some of the original A dash rail because it's sticking up past the PS and DS door line a bit. No a great side profile if you know what I mean.

I have all the original knobs, engine turned stuff and glove box..

It's still going to take a TON of work to get it all to look and fit right. I also mocked the speedo up in the center just to see how it looked.. I'm kinda 50 50 on it..

I know, I know... It's your ride do what you want, but I also like a little feedback..

What are your thoughts on the overall look of the dash and the centered speedo ?

    Thanks

I'm digg'n the speedo in the center. Agree w/ ya on trimming it a little closer to the stock dash. I think you need to get it closer before you lower your approvial rating. I'm guessing as you work it a little more, you will like it more. I say, keep going!

Like I said.. I'm 50 50... Same amount of work either way..

Center mounted means more room for speedo guts but i need to fab a plate for old location

original location means i need to make room for guts....

I like what you are doing. I like a centered speedo too. I think all the do-dads that go around the speedo need to be center with the speedo to have it look balanced. Steve

  9. I like the shit out of it! Looks great with the Speedo centered, but like Mecutum said, think about centering some other things around it for a good balance. I say keep it, I thinks it looks great!

I think this is a 50/51 Ford dash in a coupe but you get the idea. It can be done and it can look good! And FWIW I like your speedo in the center : D

1st - love the look of that dash, including the centered speedo.

2nd - I can sympathize with your feelings about it being too big, not trying to jack your thread, but here's where I'm at cramming an early 50's desoto dash into my A. I just keep telling myself to ignore my current concerns and concentrate on my original vision for the dash - it helps a little...

If you cut your dash to fit with the original dash rail,it makes and easier installation. Here is an example.I think your dash would look good this way.For me,I like the speedo in its original position.

    Looks good, I like it.

  19. Love it! Doing something like it on my car, so think about that the cluster isn't Symmetric! It fooled me in the begining, 'cause I always thought it was! - Keep up the good work

The gauges were in the middle until '33 so... I think the speedo in the middle is cool for your A. The later dash looks neat in there. Moving the speedo to the middle blends it into the older car a little. either way

    Couple updates..

I've been trimming away.. Still up in the air on the speedo.. I'me going to fill it all in without it, then maybe hit the junk yard and look for another centered up speedo ( just a bit smaller )

I'm liking the overall look of this dash though.. It's different for sho

EDIT : I'm going to pick up a piece of engine turned stock for the middle nd center up some vintage SW guages

Here's a 51 Crown Victoria dash in a 28 RPU. I had to section it in three place to get the proportions right. The perforated ares is stainless steel filter medium from Mc Master Carr that I cut and dimple-die'd to fit.

Dammit, that's so cool!!!! Great job!

  30. I modified the 54 dash for the wagon and it too will benifit from the use of a piece of engine turned metal ( where the piece of white poster board is in the photo)placed inside of the original aluminum piece.HRP
