Thanks so far for the input on the 327 & 4 speed I posted yestereen. Ok, I found the block numbers, didn't see them the first time around, as they were caked with grease. Also solved the mystery on the green/gold color - apparently, my uncle painted the motor that color to give his 'Vette that "Kustom" look (I saw the Chevy orange peeking through in those "hard to get" places)
Anyway, the block numbers are: Left side: GM 378287 Right side: 1244
The clock-like thing has the arrow pointing about 11:00

So gang, what does this all mean? Thanks!

    Best place to look

    3782870....327...62-67...2

Used in many application 1962-1967. 327 2 bolt main. I244 appears to be a '64.

Not being a numbers correct type guy..and if this is not in a 'vette it really doesn't make a difference.
A lot of "vette" engines are just SBCs with Corvette valve covers.
It's a two bolt main 327. You build it pretty much anyway you want.

  3. 3782870 is a ....327...1962-67...2
Nothing special there, look on the fron pad there will be a number stamped in, that is the one that will decode the use.

    1244, I am assuming is I244
I is the 9th leter in the alphabet so September
24 as the 24 day of the month
    4 is 1964

To dig further you will need the numbers off the front of the block. Head casting numbers and casting dates. Intake casting number and casting dates. Crank,Manifolds, etc....

It probably would be safe to say that the 4 speed is worth more than the motor.

If there was an 0 after the 378287 then that would be a 327 block. I can not get it closer than that though.

No, you're not being a dick, I just didn't think that simply throwing the numbers on Google would get any results. Sometimes the answer's so simple, you never think of it! Thanks!

The numbers on the front passenger side will tell you exactly what you have. It'll tel you where and when and what. It's the letters and numbers combo. I had the same thing with my 327 cause someone puy a deep corvette oil pan on it and the casting #'s lead in a general direction. The ones in front told me everything.
