Another GM inline question

I have a 250 out of an 80 chev p/u. My big questions are:

1: How difficult is it (assuming it's possible) to retrofit an earlier model head without the integrated manifold to this block?

2: What would the head of choice be?

 

I did it and used a head and manifolds from a mid 70's pickup. Ran great.

 

Any chevy car/truck Head and intake/exhaust manifold that was 3-piece 63-up.The 194 cid heads give the highest compression Ratio.

 

bet you could sell that head to somebody,they are hard to find as the manifolds were prone to cracking.

 

Those heads are fairly easy to find. I've got 2 250 heads gathering dust in my shop.

 

Those integral heads are worth whatever scrap iron sells for. Any 194, 230, 250, or 292 head is a bolt-on, with the 194 having the smallest chambers, as Paul sez.

Although the 194 does have the smallest combustion chambers, the specific 194 head you want is the # 3864883 casting with 60-62 cc chambers. On a stock pistoned 250, and the 194 head milled .060, you get around 10:1 CR. Add an HEI distributor, the "NEW" Fentons cast iron headers, Clifford or Offenhauser intake with a small 4 barrel, and a mild cam, and you will be impressed. Butch/56sedandelivery.
