    Hello,
I just joined the HAMB. I am the proud new owner of this wonderful car built by Bill and Dick. It now resides in Missouri. My friend Kurt McCormick spotted the pictures on the website today and directed me to where it was on the site. For more info me and the car check out www.tonys-rodshop.com. By the way great site.

    Hello Kustom Kings of NH,
Are you referring to www.tonys-rodshop.com ? If so, I just clicked on the link and it appears to be working. I do not know if there were issues earlier or not. You can also see the car and get info at www.stlouispharaohs.com . You can navigate around that site and I find the car under members rides.

Pat Aust (JimA's dad) has a very nice '51 coupe, all stock. You might see if he'd be interested in bringing it up.

    It now looks like this

    Front 3/4 Shot

He has it every year at the James Dean Run and Ducktail Run. I believe he tows it around in a huge toter home so he would probably have the means of getting it to California.

I have one photo with an Illinois license plate HLYWD 51, but for some reason when I was looking at this year, I thought they mentioned Florida

Thanks but it would have to look like it did in the movie to mean anything to the public.

Yes, looks like Steve Gonzales is enquiring about the show and it looks like "The Widow" will be attending.

  14. I just read this whole post again and I'm blown away by the historical importance of this visionary event!

My hats off to ya, Axle!

A "New School" Merc of importance is Miles Mesa's "carson topped" Merc. I think Anthony knows the whereabouts of this car. I took the attached pics at a early Tri-Chevy carshow in 1976.

Not too many guys were building period correct customs around here then. I suspect this car had given many the inspiration that sparked the custom car building boom of the late 70's and early 80's.

A significant custom to say the least.

Good luck with the show. I can't wait...

I agree Joel !Miles Mesa ruled but I think they were mainly lookin for California cars and perhaps rightfully so.However ,Mercury Charlies car is on the list as well as that sectioned 56 Merc from Mass done by Kelsey Martin.

For the record, I am looking for Award winning,Historically significant,Prestigious, and/or very well known custom Mercs regardless of geographical origins. If someone owns a famous Merc from Africa we'd consider it.

    All the best, Axle

As I said...rightfully so.I own the first recorded chopped merc on the eastern seaboard and while it was award winning, by the time it was done, chopped mercs were all but out of style in California. No one anywhere ever built custom mercs that were as important as the cars by the Barris' ,Winfield and the Ayalas. This is not to say that the rest of the cars on the venue arent magnificent.Oh and by the way I do know of some really clean 49 to 51 Mercs in South Africa but they dont cut the mustard.

Hey Axle, I remember this Merc running around Orange County, and thought it was chopped by Bill Hines. It would be a great addition to the show. I think the car has been sold in the last few years, and I am not sure of the owner's name...anybody on here know?
