I seem to be having a bit of difficulty finding the "nose art" or just pin up of the cowgirl riding a bomb. now i have seen many variations of the pic. but, not quite the one i need. The one I am looking for, in specific, is the one with the girl holding her hat(or hair i cant remember) and riding the bomb like a bull. maybe some of you guys could help me in my quest for this famous but un-sourceable pinup. I need it for an airbrushing a guy wants me to do for him. thanks, dos ocho
I doubt these are what you're looking for, but it sure is fun searching! anyways, there is some interesting stuff on the web...here's a link that has lots of data and lots of pics of a lot of B24s, there probably are more projects like this if you look hard enough. http://iies.www.ecn.purdue.edu/IIES/PLAIC/380/HISTORY/All-Aircraft-byName.htm
There is a B-24 with a girl "bull riding" a donkey called Wild Ass Ride. But it's not a bomb. If you're thinking of something like this, there were hundreds of variations.
there's a great book called Vintage Nosecraft Art which will probably have what ya want...check out the local bookstore
There's a guy on here who posted awhile back, I cannot remember his name though for the life of me. He's from Missouri, and his wife does original pinup art, and I believe he was offering her artistic services on here. She could probably do exactly what you want and/or need for a small fee. Search for pinups or something along that nature - it's been in the last month or so. Anyone know who I'm talking about?
If you have an email addy I have a picture out of "Nose Art" from Barnes and Noble of "Raz'n Hell" which has a brunette riding a bomb on a B29. Jay
Castle is only an hour away, me and Billy White went to the airshow back in 84, I think. I have never heard the story of the haunted plane. Think I'm going to plan a trip to Castle soon!! dv
CheaterRome might have it in one of his pics.... http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=6&uid=1621165& ... if not there is a pretty good one of him and I riding in a canoe that's worth a gander. Hope this helps, 'West Side' Jake
Or your local library. Find the ISBN number at the book store, go to the library's reference section and have one of the reference librarians help you look it up. It's much cheaper that way.
Yeah, there were SEVERAL variations - it would help if you knew what kind of plane the pinup appeared on. There are some very dedicated people out there who have some very obscure noseart pics online (ask me how I know) but knowing the plane helps A LOT. I can see in my mind's eye the one you're talking about though. If it would help, I could sketch a reference for you to use when you make your airbrush piece. Hope I don't sound presumptuous, I just LOVE drawing pinup girls.
Do a search for "bomber nose art"...it's been covered a few times before . Here's one to get ya started. http://66.154.44.164/forum/showthread.php?t=132591&highlight=bomber+nose+art
