I still digitize the "Traditional" way, still hand draw my art, and use a Board and Puck to plot the stitches, as Ive done since I started in 87. Im still using 1988 software.

Here are pics of the process

Art is scanned and Printed, enlarged to 3/1 it possible and traced adjusting for pull in problem areas.
Wire frame or line art is taped to the digitizing board, center and horizontal angle are plotted in. Stitch type and machine functions are on the menu at the left side of the board.
Stitch type is chosen on the menu, using various key combos on the puck I define the shapes of each segment.
After the design has been plotted in, I run through and edit on screen, fine tuning the points Ive input. Then it goes to the machine for a proof on similar material or graments to its intended use.
I then watch the sewing, and make adjustments to what I see happening on the machine.

Shading is done by plotting and sewing another color over the base color but with less density. Mixing colors by eye.

once this program is done, its just a matter of reading it into the machine, setting the color sequence, and watching them sew. A design like the skulls above can run into 40 hours of programming to get the 1st proof, then editing from there.

Thanks to all the people who appreciated my art this week. I just noticed I let a typo through, I'm normally so pedantic about such things. By the way is here any reason why I can't see any of the thumbnails from page 2 onwards. Is it just a problem at my end (oo-er!) what?

  16. Sweet work man!

I was working on one of them Big Finks at one time too. It got sent to me when I was asked to take part in an art show in Austin for the SXSW opening of the "Tales of the Rat Fink" movie.

Bad timing, work deadlines and just bad luck kept me from finishing it.

It currently site out back on my patio, half finished....

Here's some work in progress pics from back in 2006 when I was working on it. It's further along than some of these pics. I'll finish it... someday....

    Wow Sinclair that is wicked.

  24. Thanks man.

If I ever get around to working on it again, I might strip out Finky and the Hemi and next time build the body out of some hot-wired and shaped styro, instead of that heavy wood.

John, you can e-mail me and tell me exactly what you want done. I'll do any kustom kolors or detail you want. I won't be able to get to it until probably sometime in December when I get this Thanksgiving show
finished! You can contact me at: [email protected]
Thanks for the interest, Tim Nolan:cool:
