Not too much of a hot rod, but here's the original 287 in my `55 Chieftain with a few shiny things on it. 74,997 miles and runs like a top!

Two friends, a Ram Air V and Pontiac HEMI head pose for the camera. It is a fallacy that these heads are a direct copy of the Chrysler 392. They were based on them but, the M/T HEMI head is well advanced with better ports, cooling and they're aluminum opening up great potential for further development. Besides, mopar guys, Chrysler gave up on the HEMI in '58 and could care less at the time. Kinda' makes you wonder if Chrysler engineers got a hold of these babys and decided to make the 426 HEMI 2-3 years later!

 

Wonder what a set of those heads would be worth today?

The Mickey Thompson aluminum Pontiac powered Rail featured HEMI heads and won the '62 US Nationals "Top Eliminator". Driver was Jack Chrisman.

 

335 HP 1971 455 HO, with a factory aluminum Quadrajet intake and separate iron exhaust crossover for the choke stove (crossover removed in this pic).





Another 455 with a 1966 Tri-Power unit. All 3 are the large-base Rochester carbs, '66 was the only year for this big trio of 2-barrels.



Factory Pontiac 410 HP 1963 421 Super Duty 'bathtub' tunnel ram intake (a rare repro of the original intake). Talk about a conservative horsepower rating.





Pontiac really had their shit together.

They are worth Gold today. Steve Barcack has been lucky enough to obtain these rare creatures and even has a complete engine. They rarely pop up for sale.

Value ? If someone has to have them - A LOT !

 

The 1969 RAV tunnel-port heads sell for more than 5K for a pair, these days a good set is around 10K.

The M/T hemi heads are waaay harder to find than the RAV heads.

So you can just imagine what the M/T heads are going for.

It's only numbers in a check book.

 

actually the arias big block heads are being made again, we put some on a car last year and have another motor waiting to go into a customers car with them, they are narly

 

Steve from pontiacheaven.org is the only guy i'm aware of that has two and a half original pontiac hemi motors. he's a great source for pontiac info.

 

About the same as a house in nice area . My 467 cid w/ Edelbrock Torquer II singleplane , Ram-Air IV cam , headers , 750 cfm carb , 9.5 - 1 compression and a full race wingnut holding the K & M airfilter on

Thanks for startin the Pontiac Tread Kail. My favorite Engine. Any more on your 389 project? I was wondering what you used for pistons, since stock 389 pistons will have the valve reliefs in the wrong spot for 670 heads.

i havent yet opened the motor it came with the 670 heads on it and was a running motor so its still a mystery
