Who had the magic marker fist on the dash with the quote "Kill Whitey?"

Jokes like that are what help separate the Pile-Up from the other shows.

And I mean humor. That dash made me laugh my ass off.

Who has a pic of that bottle opener... they do rock.. Hellfish's wife Elizabeth came up with that idea. :)

The thing about pileup that concerns me the most...

Is this..... this shows the extent of the spectator parking lot around 11 in the afternoon..

I sure hope I don't get bitched at by a volunteer or called a bitch on line for where I choose to park at your event. ;)

Are you sure it was that early? Some of my friends an coworkers arrived after 12 and had no problem parking... but they did say they had to walk a looooong way.

The Lion's show the following day wasn't nearly as big, but a pretty good size. Their spectator lot was a few hundred yards down the highway from the show and they offered a shuttle bus service. Maybe we could do something like that if there was another relatively close field to park... like at the airport, or one of the businesses just south of the Fairgrounds that are closedon Saturday

I left at 11:40 and the lot was pretty full. There were probably 20 cars stopped on the highway and 3 or 4 cars driving slowly down the gravel looking down the aisles for a spot.

Too bad we couldnt look at the shadows and judge the time from them!

Nothing I could say that hasn't been said here several times, so I'll just add my favorite picture of the weekend:

No, but it'd be fun to watch them get destroyed.

I arrived around 10:30 and was very near the back of the spectator lot. This picture was taken about 2 in the afternoon.

How about the fields surrounding the fairgrounds? A little pre-planning with the farmer and a little incentive to pick early and pay to dry the crops

With the price of LP around here that might be a little costly. Besides you can't dry beans in a dryer.

Did yous guys every think that it would get this big? I am impressed, you guys do a great job. I got there around 11 I was parked pretty close to Rt. 47. Yes the spectator spot was pretty full by than. The guys parking the cars did a great job though.
I did not get one picture, just to many people to see the cars.
This was my 4th one, nothing compares to the first one, though. I look as this event as sensory overload. Just to many things to see. I thought my son and I saw all the cars there, but as I look at all of the pics posted on here, I keep saying how did I miss that car? I was really disappointed I did not see Mike Zenor coupe.
I went to the Lions show the next day, it really makes me wish more car events where like the pile up, except with a swap meet like the Lions car show have.

From reading this thread and from being a long-time Pile Up participant, just my two cents...

    1. My fifth or sixth Pile Up and certainly the best...my kudos to the Czars and while I have some great buds there, I want you ALL in the Czars to know how much we all appreciate the job that you do and at least for me and a ton of others, for putting the best damn event that I/we attend each year. For me, my sons and my pals, this event is way more than about cars and great people...it is about getting to let your effing hair down without any worry about anything. That may sound crazy, but for some of us, it is WAY cool to just get the chance to spend time with those people that you respect, trust, and respect their opinons about anything..especially hot rods. Thanks for making this happen for us!!!!!!

    2. Went to fire up my 40 Sedan for the trek to Morris at about Noon on Friday and found out that my effing starter was fried. No replacement until Saturday. Quickly called my buddy Tim from Iowa (who was already on his way in his CHERRY 36 Cab) to let him know the bad news. Met Tim at the Days Inn and jumped in his 36 and laid rubber to the Red Cent. GREAT move, Czars, on getting the HQ bar there!

    3. Catherine (Dumb Whore): You rock, sister. Thanks for your awesome orgranizational efforts!! This was the third (I think) year I have volunteered and every volunteer that I have worked with is really cool and sincerely want to support this special event in any way that they can. This year, I took money at the spectator gate for two hours straight and while my old back ached, I met some GREAT spectators who do GET it and they could not have been nicer despite having to often wait in line. Thanks to ALL who exuded patience!!! YOU WERE GREAT! My take is that this event is supported by so many great volunteers because the Czars APPRECIATE their help and they are treated accordingly.

    4. Cliffy: I have no idea who in the hell you are, but I read your comments today and you might want to think before you act or speak. Yikes.

    5. Denise: Sorry I missed you, my dear, at the Meet & Greet....you are special to all of us. I missed your cookies and your great smile.

    6. Old Sign Bob: GREAT to see you at the Red Cent on Friday...you are greatly appreciated on the HAMB for ALL you do!!!!

    7. Cartoon cars: Wow. Still amazed that some folks spend so much time on shit that no one understands, appreciates or respects. People....this SHIT was NEVER a part of traditional hot rodding!!!! HELLO!!?!!?! We saw so such stupid shit....maybe the Czars may stop some of this shit like they do on other stuff. Sorry to bitch, but yuck. If you want attention, get a hot chick to run topless shotgun in a Rambler (As long as it passes the Czars rules)!!!

    8. Czars "Rules" at the gate: In my opinon, THIS is maybe one of the BEST things that is a part of this event. What great theater!!!!!!! Keep it up!!!!! Seriously, I think that this is one of the reasons why this event remains so special....supporting the "real" deal and bitch slapping those who do not GET it. Love it!!!!

    9. Hot Chicks: The meter was on the redline on this one this year....thanks, God.

    10. One Day vs Two Days: GOTTA keep it at ONE day with "Friday Night Thunder" at the Red Cent. Increases the intensity of the event and after talking with several of my buddies that drive in from out of state, this allows then to hit the "heart" of the event.

    11. Most of all, wishing Mr & Mrs Django peace and love with their new (pending!!!) baby. Godspeed.

Thanks to ALL who make this a special event for me and my sons & pals.

This was my first Pileup and all I can say is WOW! Living so close, how in the world did I let this one pass year after year? I didn't drive my car, but instead got the opportunity to haul Ina Mae out for palosfv3 (Larry). What a hoot, even though ole Ina decided not to cooperate when it was time to go home.

To the Chrome Czars and all the volunteers: I've never seen such organization, enthusiasm and general all around fun. You should all be proud of your efforts, time and sweat equity. I'll be sure to volunteer next year.

Once again, a great job by all. You have set the benchmark!

I totally agree with you on this one. Of the 300 or so pictures I took, I made sure to take some shots of what I thought was the "questionable" stuff.

While I feel the show would be better without the 10 or 15 JC Whitney specials, there is a large section of spectators who were crowded around them most of the day. Hideous or not... some people still want to look at them.

My Uncle brought the neighbor "kid" who is 20. I bet he took 50 pictures and most of those were of spiderweb grille inserts and trumpet exhaust.

I did my best to differentiate between rat rods and traditional... but he was more excited about the rat rods... but at least now he knows the difference.

This year due to high LP gas cost it would have been around 80-100 bucks an acre to dry the corn in the adjacent field for additional parking just so you know.

The security guard went off on some dude for driving through the empty bean field. I was somehow able to resist giving him a lesson on soil compaction and pointing out the ruts in the ground from the combine. You couldn't even tell where the car drove through. If that was that big of a deal, then 200 addtional cars certainly wouldn't make him happy at all. ha ha ha

Well here is a shot of what showed up after I ordered and I ate it all if that says anything. I almost wakled out with my water glass until the lady at the counter said "would you like a to go glass sir" I had no idea at that point.

I'm just trying to fill in some blanks from friday, I've been reading some posts and I think I may or may not have been the stranger helping. I hope I didn't piss anyone off, you have to give me some credit for not dropping the jack and about the nutting thing sorry can't explain that one but I'll have a talk with my buddy miller high life and see what he says. Glad to hear it was a joke I felt bad the whole day of the show for the little I do remember. Thanks for not kicking my ass and taking my money! I felt like I was watching a movie!

Oh it was me, your description left out my black frame glasses, again sorry to those I may have upset, around 10:00 at the red cent is my last memory with the occasional fading in and out, I remember the jack but I don't remember carrying it, however the bruise on my left thigh matches up with a jack. Next year I will have a few less beers!
