Farewell to a great actor and a real car guy. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D93F3R481&show_article=1
I'd say R.I.P. but no former race car driver would want to have too much peace in the hereafter. I hope he's topping 300 and power sliding his way through the pearly gates right now! Go show 'em how it's done, Mr. Newman. I'll race ya for a 12 pack when I get there.
Rest in Peace Mr. Newman. You were an inspiration for all of us. The end of an era for sure. Thank you for giving so much to this world. I will always remember you for your finest roll........Doc Hudson in Cars.
What an incredible story-book life. We should all be so lucky... But the world is a less colorfull and more dreary place for his loss. RIP Mr. Newman Now THAT just put a smile on my face!
Sucks. One more dead badass to put on list. He will go under Mcqueen, Isaac hayes gets bumped down one. We are running out really good Icons, dont ya think? Cheers and beers Hodge
I just heard. I can't believe he was that old. But still, a man that cool should have lived 150 years. My condolences to everyone that appreciated him. "She's a Lesbian, a Lesbian!"
yup! i know hes made a million killer movies, but ive watched cars with my whole family 100 times! RIP!!!!!!
my friend drives for paul newman racing, paul was a real class act, hell of a good guy. its sad to see him close his eyes for the last time.
Back in the late 80s my sister was a nanny for a rich family in Connecticut who lived near the Newmans, and got to meet him a few times; said he was a funny, gracious guy, no airs. Didn't even know he was ailing before I saw the news report. Weird thing is that a few days ago I was up a Road America and saw one of his old BRE Datsun road racers (it's behind the Lola in this pic), which sparked a conversation about Newman, McQueen etc... Spooky.
Paul was a great man not only as an actor/ race car drive but someone who really cared. He cared especially about the Children he gave most of his money to charity. He even has a camp for kids with cancer and other bad stuff. http://www.holeinthewallgang.org/ and ironically he died of cancer. R.I.P. Paul you will be truly missed.
Yeah, and most people think he started his food companies like most famous people do, to make money, but ALL profits went to charity, and those camps. We buy a lot of his stuff, even his booz, his whine was ok, I honestly started drinking it because of the label, it's funny as hell and pokes fun at whine snobs. You cant ask for more than 93 years, and he helped a lot more people than most of us do. Something to think about. Cheers and beers Hodge
"Wednesday, August 13, 2008 (WRITER UNKOWN) Lime Rock Park was closed down for an hour and half today to honor Paul Newman. He was attended by his family, close friends, Skip Barber, mechanics on his race team, and those who happened to be at the track. PLN toured the track in his Corvette race car with his Buick V8 powered Volvo station wagon following. He had come to say goodbye. Diagnosed with terminal cancer he is not expected to live beyond September. Race driver, actor, humanitarian, family man and friend, they did not come any better." Labels: Paul Newman LimeRock was closed down today Wednesday for an hour and a half so Paul Newman could take a few last laps there in his GT1 Corvette and say goodbye. He was diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago and is not expected to make it past September. Hearing this has left a sick feeling in my stomach. Newman was and will always be one of my racing hero's. Bob Sharp Racing being our local "big race team" and the fact that my Dad raced with Bob Sharp back when he was racing Sprites in G Production in the 60's was my "connection" When Bob got the Datsun deal and showed up at LimeRock with those Red White and Blue 510's, it really but the bug in me for racing. I was a bit too young to remember the Datsun Roadsters but for some reason the 510's made a big impression on me. When I was 7 years old in 1972 my Dad and I walked into the old timing tower at the Glen and met up with Bob and Paul who were standing there eating peanuts. My dad said to say hello to Mr. Sharp and Mr. Newman They drive the Red White and Blue cars you like so much. All I could do is stand there and stare. Newman said hi, took my hand and filled it up with peanuts and said "have some, there good for ya". From that moment on all I could think about is driving race cars and someday having my own Red White and Blue 510. It was one of those defining moments in your life that you will never forget. 32 years later at the 2004 LimeRock National I drove my first GT race in a 77 Datsun 200SX. Newman was the first GT1 car to lap me. As he went past I gave him the thumbs up and he did the same to me. Surreal !
