pretty rare item i'm sure but what would a NOS vintage RCA Victor model AP-1 in car record player go for these days?? a buddy found one in his dad's garage after he passed away. curious if it was worth anything. still in the original box. never been installed. the thing is CHERRY!
seen one at pomona a few months ago. the guy wanted $600 for it. it was still in the box wrapped in paper. i dont think anyone bought it though
heres one from ebay... i guess they do go for that much. *edit* just realized ebay wont let you see completed items unless you have an account... anyway this one pulled in $535 and is the exact same model. could spell a couple new tires or something for your buddy http://completed.shop.ebay.com/item...QLHQ5fCompleteZ1QQ_flnZ1?MA2ShowItems&guest=1
find a chrysler nut somewhere. had one in a 57' chrysler and they called them "the hiway hi-fi! thought somebody had put it there. pretty crazy option. post a pic.
Ther MoPar ones played records only available from them with some weird speed. RCA's played 45's and maybe some older ones were 33 1/3 rpms. My cousin had one in his then new 63 Impala SS convertible. Combined with his "Vibrasonic Sound" reverb it was the cat's meow in the mid 60's.
Back in the mid-80s when I was 13 or 14, I rode in a black-on-red '64 Impala SS 327/300, 4-spd, 4.11s. The one thing I recall is the in-car record player skipped pretty bad when the driver (friend of my Dad's) decided to grab a hard 2nd gear with the Muncie.
In high school in the '60's my best buddy had one in his Impala . We'd cruise through the local A&W with it going full volume . We were the coolest thing on the road ,...till you hit bump .
I had one in the glovebox of my full custom Henry J,only worked when stopped ,and even then any shifting of bodys in the car would screw up the 45,but it was def and new at the time but not again.
Are you sure it's an RCA and not an ARC? ARC in-car record players were in the accessories catalog for Mopars after they ditched out on the Highway Hi-Fi systems. I know up to at least 1960 they were offered. I'd like one of those for my '60 Fury, would be a neat item to have even if it's totally impractical.
I remember those. They wore out records pretty fast because of the tension on the arm with the needle. My sister had one in here 61 chevy it would skip going over tar strips in the road.
I have a Philips like my uncle had in his Willys, ugly damn thing. I don't know if it works, it doesn't really matter because when I look at it it reminds me of him, he was such a cool guy, man I miss him.
They'll let you see completed items, but you can't search the completed auctions unless you login. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220274390253
1. They didn't work for shit while driving. 2. When they were on and you were driving and you had a spring-type reverb the needle bounce wa VERY annoying. 3. When you PARKED to snuggle...then they were COOL....
I sold one on Ebay in July for $960.00 and it was not NOS. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140248886861
My mom sent me a RCA one for Christmas last year that she found at a garage sale for $5. It's in decent shape but would need to be gone through before installation. I might be willing to let it go for a small profit....
