Does anyone have information on camping at the bend in the road at Bonneville..Due to hotel situation I'm thinking of towing my airstream up...Are reservations required???Any one to contact...Thanks
Nope, just show up and find a place to park. NO SERVICES THOUGH. You will have to go to the gas station to shower and toilet. BB
Exit the one that says Bonneville Speedway. Turn north on the right is the truckstop where you can eat and shower about a mile down the road takes a sharp 90 degree turn Hence the "bend in the road" name for the camping area. You really can't miss it, will be lots of folks aready set up there Port-a-pots only and a large dumpster for your garage. Clean up after yourself If you continue past the bend in the road a couple of miles you will come upon where the land ends and the salt begins.
is there any truth to what we were told last year? the ditch sort of divides the camping at the bend. the sissies who stayed in the motorhome ran the generator for the a/c all night while i set up a tent. in the morning we were told that one side of the ditch(opposite where we were) was for campers and rv's with generators and the side we were on was for tents or others without generators(hence, quieter). or do you think our neighbor lied to us in order to get some sleep without the generator buzz?
Some guy named Morticia is doing some kind of gathering Tuesday evening at the bend. I think he might be Hopped Up on something.
Remember this is a "courtesy" of BLM and BNI. We are providing 6 out houses and a big trash bin. Please do not trash the area! Help us by picking up more than is "yours". If you don't, we will have to! THANKS, Steve and the "Stupid Car" crew.
That's the first time I've heard that. If it were true you would think that there would be some kind of sign with the 'rules' on it...
it came from a long time bonneville attendee, but he is known for starting trouble. i sort of hope he's there again this year. it was norm frick, the guy who makes the riley and ardun overhead stuff for bangers.
Watch out for the coppers, rumor has it they will be checking for open containers on the road between the Bend in the Road up to I-80 (about a mile), and generally being a pain. Too many new visitors not behaving themselves the last few years finally got the law mad enough to clamp down.
Are they doing a checkpoint, or just looking at the cars as they go by? i'm not saying I'll be drinking an open beer while I'm driving.... I dont think people being a pain is the issue, I think $$ is the issue. That sucks for them, and the whole town, because this talk of speed traps, etc will keep us out of Wendover and just kicking it at the bend. Fine with me, but the town loses across the board. Think Paso Robles..... I've been pulled over twice for drinking Stater Bros club soda in a can. It looks like a beer can, I guess. They get all flustered when they catch you with that, and not a beer....
Look at the SCTA/BNI web site. It has a lot of information about Speed Week. In there somewhere is the bit about camping up the road to the left of the bend. I believe that is where they are setting up the porta johns and the trash bin. Charlie
This is what I awoke to that fine August morning in 2004.I think the sleeping on the salt in the open air was one of my favorite parts of my trip in 2004. EVIL
In 2006 I spent 2 nights in the bed of my F1 truck wrapped in a sleeping bag at the bend. I slept great and waking up to a sunrise on the salt is amazing. Also, the local law have always been rather serious about speed limits in town.
