I need to find a good shop to get some engine work done, in the Boston area. Inside 495 would be a plus; I'm planning on doing a lot of the work myself so there'll be a couple trips back and forth. Anybody have a place to recommend or stay away from? The machine shop directory was woefully short on New England shops... thanks!

I had an engine built at Miller Machine Shop in Haverhill and have nothing but good things to say about them. Not only did I get the engine, but Phil Miller, the owner, sat with me for hours discussing engine building, parts, theory etc. Good general knowledge stuff and walked me through every step of the engine build. This was probably about 8 yrs ago, though.
