I am going to add this link to the "Drag cars in motion" post but it also deserves its own ... Its on the Greybeard Pic site I frequent Enjoy 15 Grins http://www.graybeardracing.com/images/2008/bfg/15oz_cpe/index.htm
The 15 OZ stemmed from the contents of the standard Burgermeister beer can , it took quite a few during it's heyday. Mike Demerest and brother Bill had a hand in that coupe when the GroundShakers were running it , everyone that worked on it got the chance to drive ! This was before mandated Comp. licensing as we have today. I recall Mike saying it made something like 10-12 passes over one weekend years ago. That little fuel 354 hung in there though. Forward to a couple years ago, when a 426 style fuel engine was installed, an updated cage installed on the '34 rails and it came to Bako to scare the living crap outa everyone !! To my knowledge it was going through a complete restoration , I liked it better with the patina and told Mike that guys were paying to achieve the same look. Take the resto money and buy nitro !!
Great story, but the article mis-identified the crew, Lyle Webster is second from left with the beard...(Les told me that they got the car from Bruce McDowell, already chopped...McDowell was the owner of the "Bad News" Fiat coupe, and later went on to run top alcohol cars)...the car was first painted sort of a baby blue color with the injected motor before they repainted it orange.
As the car went thru its reinventions over the years and owners, it didn't change much body wise. A little different paint / primer, that's about it. But every time someone decided to put larger and larger rear tires and wheels on it...the bader looking it got. And it sounded as "bad" as it looked. Like it wanted to eat people..! I knew one of its tuners, Mike Demarest, he was good at what he did. Mike
I have two (#1) 34 5 window body sitting on a Chassis Engineering frame that has come and gone a few times in my life. A 1971 454 turbo set up 1966 Mustang steering the rear needs to be changed it is a 8" now but needs a 9". Number (2) 4 inch chop is a piece of junk built from a 4 door and many unknown pieces and the body is real ruff all the rust has been taken care of in the works. Lots of dents. Stock chassis torque tube rear stock 34 axel F-1 front brakes split bones Cad 331 52 truck 3 speed. I have always wanted a mean little coupe and have been looking at changing the bodies around. The Chassis frame could easily handle the power and the stock frame would work for the un-chopped 34 coupe . 15 OZ has always been in the back of my mind ! I do not do pictures so it did not happen right?
