How many cars do you have and how many is too many?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jleavesl, Jul 11, 2008.

  1. Too much. of course not (not what my girlfriend thinks)

It's a shame that only 2 cars are running (the oldest and "newest")

    My cars at the moment:

    1931 Ford A coupe (running/original)
1932 Ford V-8 tudor (American body, original car with flathead)
1932 Ford V-8 tudor (English body, 32 BB truckchassis, flathead)
1932 Ford 3W coupe (glass Rodline body, original chassis, flathead)
1939 Mercury coupe (331 Chrysler Hemi)
1951 Buick Special HT coupe (in pieces for the last 16 years)
    1952 Desoto sedan 276 Hemi<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> <!-- vBulletin.register_control("vB_ProfilefieldEditor", "7"); //--> </SCRIPT> (running/original)

Also a 1987 VW Caddy partshauler and several motorbikes
    and a company Ford Fuckus

    We have five:

'95 Ford F-250 with 7.3 diesel that we can't afford to drive with fuel @ $4.60+

    '04 Ford Focus, wife's daily
'02 Mustang rag top, my daily
    '28 Ford modified
    '47 Mercury coupe, latest aquisition.

There's no such thing as too many cars. When I grow up I wanna be Jay Leno.

    A winter/summer honda civic,
    my 31 ford coupe
a frame and a pile of parts for something A.
    that's plenty for me.

  5. There is no such thing as too many. We have about 300. Four are licensed and insured about 40 of them run another 60 or so are viable projects the rest are parts or just need to be sold for scrap. We would buy another in a heartbeat if the price was right. :eek:OldWolf

Well---we're all sick aren't we??? Hahahaha. I only have 3 at the moment though this is my drought, as in the past I had a few more. The ole' Nova, which is sort of a heap but sentimental (my first old car, and no, it will never leave), my '54 Roadmaster which is also a fixture even though it's one of those uber expensive restos and then the daily.

But if you count my boyfriend's loot, well---I'd have to stop counting, because they're strung across three cities in California and then, there are ones in Florida

Oh yeah---and I'm always on Craigslist looking for cheapo projects. Sick sick sick. Too many? I say never sell the ones that are sentimental, never sell your first, and never break the bank to finance a car. If you aren't hurting yourself to keep the cars, there isn't a "too many." If you find yourself living in the backseat of your biggest sled because you couldn't afford your house, you may want to rearrange your financial priorities.

I have 2 cars currently. I don't think you can ever have too many cars and motorcycles. Look at Leno. I'd love to have a collection that big and I'd still want more.

8 1/2 cars counting the modern stuff plus a bike. One too many but always room for two more.

I have 5 at my house.

2003 Lexus - I use it when the weather is bad.
1989 S10 2dr Blazer - Dropped, shaved and I am bagging it in the next few months
1959 Chevy P/U - Runs and drives, pick up parts, rod runs and just cause mischief
1954 Plymouth - runs and drives, needs a set of front tires though
1946 Chevy P/U - sitting in pieces in my backyard, needs to be put together.

I wish I had a garage, I work on all these outside. Thinking about selling the Plymouth to build a garage, but it's hard to part with.

I've got 4 Drivers and 4 Projects and It's way too much.

I'm just starting to realize that I just don't have the amount of time it takes to keep up the maintenance on all of them much less try to refine them and bring them up to the level they should all be in.

There just isn't enough time in a day to take care of the house stuff, spend time having fun with family and friends and keep up with all the projects in the garage.

I was happiest when I had 1 daily driver, 1 polished and finished Hot Rod, and 1 project.

So I guess the answer for me is 3, any more is too much and that's the advice I'd give anyone.

Let's see if I can remember all of them.

    2000 Dakota
    1965 Ford F100
    1937 Olds
    1968 Chevy C50 tiltbed(car Hauler)
    1981 Jaguar XJ6(with a Chevy 350 in it)
    1953 Chevy truck
    1931 Chevy coupe
    1946 Standard(little British car)
    1965 Datsun pickup
    1991 BMW K100(bike)
    1975 Triumph T160(bike)

Add four or five parts cars and a 1969 Forester Camper Trailer. Too many?

  12. I think about 8 or 9 on topic or near topic here and probably a couple dozen off topic, parts cars and such. And over the past year I've probably crushed a dozen that we already had sitting around. I can't have too many for my tast. I like junk.

I'not sure there is such a thing as too many. I wish i owned a junkyard. i have four now, two dailes and two driving rods, although i can only afford to plate and insure one of them. i also have another that is hiding in piles all over the shop, kinda looks like a cool cowl with a boattail, four banger, model A front axle and bajo rear on a home built frame...but I've never seen it all in one pile at one time...yet!

I think "too many" occurs when you can't keep them out of the elements and they are going down hill while in your possession. If you can't take good care of them it's time to let them go to someone who will.

Too many is when they sit outside and ruin, otherwise ya can't have too many. I recently sold a rough 1931 Ford Roadster and a streetrodded 1937 Ford slantback that no longer did it for me, down to 6 between the me and my wife, and an all time low of only 1 hot rod:

31 Ford Roadster-327/4 speed- I plan to keep it forever.
67 RS Camaro convertible 327/350-the wifes
67 Camaro convertible- no engine yet, building to sell,
67 RS Camaro,a 60s style street strip toy with e-t IIIs and a 350/4 speed. (so, I like 1st generation camaros too)
dailys-99 Toy Landcruiser,04 solara convertible -wifes

my problem is between the cars, couple a 3 honda 4-wheelers, an ARG0 6x6, and a boat, there's always something that's broken down, takes a ton of money to fix, or is out of gas.

I have one daily and the 65 Chevy. My wife has her daily that's a lease so I don't even have to touch it. I have to admire the people that can own and maintain several classic cars. Between family, work and the house I don't seem to have the time or money.
