Hey guys! I'm new to the board but not new to hot rods. Most of my cars have been 60's muscle cars but I have had an old '48 Ford truck for about 15 years now and I'm ready to get it on the road. It was an original Coca Cola delivery truck. Still yellow. I painted the wheels red and put some wide whites on it. It sits wayyyy too high. What are some suggestions on lowering it. I would really rather not cut it up. Where can I find springs? How about a drop front axle? Thanks in advance! Derrick
You will get some good advice from the guys here, but be prepared for the "do an intro" hazing as well. Head 'em off at the pass and post an "official" intro in the "New to the HAMB" section. They'll go easier on ya that way. Post some pics of the truck too...sounds interesting
4" dropped axle--use stock front spring starting with 9 leaves remaining---tube shocks also----watch the scrub line/watch the wishbones hitting the frame where they cross --your 48 may have the stepped wishbones whci add clearance
I dropped the front of my '55 f-100 by using a Nova subframe. (Be careful not to cut off the piece of the frame in front of the cab that has the VIN stamped into it.) In the rear, I ground off the rivets that hold the spring mounts on, and moved them up one set of holes. Then, I drilled the frame, and put in a second set of rivets. Sorry, sold the truck, don't have any pics.
