Just got my Good Guys Gazette and there was a picture of a 57 Buick from New Zealand that was two-toned. When I started planning the paint for my 57 Buick I had thought of that. Presently, it is one color -- silver frost. Now. I'm thinking of going back to the idea of two-toning. As I have a deep red interior, the second color would be a color to match the interior. Should I leave it as is or two-tone it??? Any opinons one way or the other??

I gotta say I really like the solid color better. Especially with the chop. Doesnt break it up as much, and it seems to flow together a little better. Beautiful car man! Love those 57 Buicks.

    I'm a fan of the 2-tone...

Of course the trim is going back on as soon as I can find the time to cut and buff.

This isn't gonna help at all, but I'll throw my opinion out there.

Twochops = Yours looks great the way it is. But... I'm diggin the two-toned one also. Silver is a color that you really can't do a "bad" two-tone job with. Meaning, pretty much anything you choose to go with it will look good.

That being said, my 55 Special is two-toned charcoal grey and black. I wouldn't want it one color because I feel the two-tone sets it apart from others similar to it. However... If it were silver, I may not feel that way.

Sorry man... I think I'd love yer 57 either way.

Zman = OHHHH!!! It's getting close!! Hurry up and get that trim on it!! I wanna see that bad boy when it's done. Lookin great!

I wouldn't touch it, it looks killer as is. Greys/Silver and burgandy colours together look very dated.

If you have to two-tone it, try and stick to a 50's look so it won't be out dated in 6 months. Look at Zman's post, classic colours like that will never go out of style on that car.

Keep it one color. The chop sets it apart all by itself.

    Beautiful car.

  8. I like both. Yours is tits as is. I dig the Caddy roof portion on his....I cant remember if its the Roadmaster(?) that had that rear roof section?

I like your car better just the way it is, so clean.

Personally I like it the way it is...looks clean. The lines on the two-tone version distract from the beautiful proportions that the chop has created. If you're looking for a different look, maybe try WIDE whites or paint a small red accent on the caps...

I have to agree with those who say yours is just too clean the way it is.
If it wasn't chopped I might be more inclined to say go with the two tone.
Great color for that body style.

This time less is more. Maybe down the road a couple of years it might be time to do the two tone just to change it then or take care of any door dings or chips but not now.

I had a 57 Olds some years back, a beautiful car - as is yours. Hit a horse one night and that was that, for both.
As for color, extend the front chrome trim another couple inches to the rear wheelwell, then paint only that forward lower area under the chrome.

    Two tone!

    If you want it:

    "mean"....red or black

    "exotic"....purple

    "dreamy......blue

    ''50s".....aqua, or pink-orange (coral)

    "classy".....gold

You could also work in some 'flake or lace at the same time, unless you want an early look.

Whatever you plan, light colors are much more visible. I would not use a dark shade on the top. That would tend hide the chop. A dark color on the bottom would not. Also, a dark color on top might be too warm in those Florida summers.

    THANKS-every one for your replies
I think when the red interior is finshed(about 2 more weeks)
it will have all the color that it needs.

What about a "champagne" type color on the bottom with (as mentioned by Buzznut) wider whites? Say a 4" white wall. That could look classy and not destract from the lines of the car.

Seein the red added by thirdyfivepickup isn't doin it for me like I thought it would.

I'd pm Janne, Rikster or one of the other great HAMB artists
and ask them their opinion... maybe even see how much they would charge for a rendering.

I personally like the two tone, but not my version... :) The other one in your first post looks really good that way.

Oh the one piece window... I never liked that... I really think the three piece rear window is one of the coolest things about these cars....
