I wasn't there so I don't know what happened. But the story wouldn't have been as exciting if he had wrecked trying to turn around some a hole that turned in front of him would it? Maybe the guy wasn't doing what they said?
Don't trust what a reporter says to be exactly what happened. The hot rod out of control story "sells" a lot better.
I hope the guy recovers. Sounds like he's pretty bad off.
If I build a T bucket I'm gonna make sure the damn body doesn't fly off if I wreck. That'd screw you up pretty bad if your seatbelts were bolted to the frame and the body flew off.

Knowing from personal experience that reporters are as a rule functional idiots (light on the functional part) who neither have nor seek out a cursory understanding of anything they write about and try to use their job as a method of change in the activist/socialist sense, I don't believe a fucking word I read in any paper.
As has been pointed out, the key words used by this tool of a reporter pretty much prove this to be the case. I will not pass judgement on this driver based on that biased editorial, masquerading as a news report.

hope he pulls through, but i have to say that if he had a seat belt on he most likely would be dead.....the body is upside down on the pavement..flying through the air may have saved him

  6. Shit, that's right by the Totem.

    Hopefully the guy recovers.

every time someone points out the lack of seat belts in an open car (especially like that T) I have to point out You're basically sitting on the car rather than in it.

    just like a motorcycle.

however, If you have some cowl in front of You (like a model A) and the body is secured, it is better to have one than not.

The arguement of "hotrods are unsafe because of power to weight ratio and the lack of safety harnesses" is easily disspelled by one simple word.

    Motorcycle.

Any of us at one time or another...

the way this story is written... the guy probably goosed it a little and smoked the tires a bit and took off when the other car turned in front of him.

Sure its his fault... but they are making it look like he did a John Force burnout... that's probably not the case.

    Absolutely.

Hot rods are unsafe at times because of the rednecks that operate them in such a fashion. Its alot easier to screw up big time in something like that.

I remember at the Road Agents show one year in Conn, there was a "burnout box" in the corner of the hotel parking lot as there is every year. Some guy in some hot rod came around the corner and stood on it alomost losing it into all the cars parked in the lot. Stupidity.

I posted this article as soon as I saw it on the net. The original photo posted was from a different angle, more from the left front of the T-Bucket. The photo was then changed, as was the published story that came out in this mornings paper. The other thing about this, is that last weekend was the annual "Cruise to Colby" auto show; right in downtown Everett, and it's a static show, no moving cars. Glad this did'nt happen then. It's hard to tell from the photo, but this street is 2 lanes both direction, with a center turn lane, AND right hand turn lanes also used for transit. That's SEVEN lanes of traffic and the accident sight was just north of an intersection with seven lanes the crossing direction. The original article was less dramatic, and made it appear the T-Bucket driver did his burnout, lost control, and went into oncoming traffic. The published article was really pumped up and changed. I now wonder if this was a test drive by a prospective buyer, or someone out for a first drive of the season. This is a car town, always has been, but this does'nt help towards keeping it that way. I have 36 years in healthcare as an X-Ray tech who does C.T. Scanning. This kind of "head injury" is grave, and the fact he was taken to Harborview Medical Center makes me believe he most likely will not survive. Such a waste across the board; a life, a car, and a misguided perception that follows.

There is an email in that link. I've been really thinking about sending that guy an email about the tone of the story... I should probably ask why the second version of the story was "souped up."

    23 T-Bucket for sale:
Some repair needed to complete the project. Was running when last I remember. Need money to aid in medical bills and repair a real lack of judgment.

(Note: I hope he does well. You can learn from a mistake if your dead)

The cruise colby show is static on Monday but I went Sunday and they block of all those roads and the cars cruise around all day its much more fun than going for the static show.

Not really sure what to think, other than I hope the guys is okay. My, how easy it is to sit back on yer ass and cast judgement or form a conclusion on someone elses actions, when you weren't there. Like all stories that get reported, if you weren't there to see it, perhaps the best course of action is to shut the fuck up and wait for the details to come out. Again, regardless of how this happened to a member of the hobby, I hope he's alright.

  18. My friend,Troy brought his friends T-bucket over one day, blown 383, and I took my wife for a ride in it. As I pulled away from the curb,I got on it a little, and my foot got caught on the brake pedal. It did a fuckin wheelie, and we almost crashed into the cars parked across the street! Very unpredictable, that's for sure! I'm NOT saying it wasn't my fault, but it got away from me in a "blink"!!!

  19. Why jump to conclusions until the truth is known....it was stated he swerved to miss a car in front of him (maybe no brake lights).point is we werent there!...same thing as the wreck last year in Diego, every body talked shit about the car/driver...CHP figured out much later what happened there was the bottom of the seat slid forward and shoved the car in reverse while going forward at speed,Hope the guy recovers,it sucks when any rod guy bangs one up

    what tfeverfred said !

I like how so many of you call the guy an idiot , stupid and so forth for driving however the article left an impression on you and then turn around and say he should have done it in a parking lot , backroad and so on..........SHIT HAPPENS THERE TOO! Bottom line is everyone of us has at one time or another driven in a similar way descrided and really shouldn't. If you want to drive like a racecar driver go to a race track ,and keep it off the streets and away from innocent bystanders. I don't know who the guy is, but I hope he survives to lead a somewhat normal life.

I agree with you guys, but I have another point I'd like to add.

Sure, I hope the guy is okay, as whether he was showing off and lost control or merely was playing a few seconds before someone turned in front of him to me is somewhat irrelevant.

The problems I see are from the potential Capitol Hill vultures who are waiting to tout something like this accident to bolster their anti-hotrod campaigns. I know we aren't supposed to do politics here, but the problem I still see is that the government officials like to force 2000 pounds of prevention for an ounce of cure.

Yeah, this guy's hurt and all, and his car is toast, but in the end we'll all have to fight to pay for what he has done.

  22. All it takes is that one "oh, shit!" moment and your life changes forever...and something has happened to ALL of us at one time or another...those of you reading this have lived through yours. I really hope the T-missile pilot recovers, and learns.

  23. Its nice to see this poor basterd getting crucified by a jury of his peers(us hot rodders that is). It seems like most of you are assuming the print media is in no way jumping to the conclusion (as thay so oftern do)that because this man is driving a hot rod he is at fault. I'm not saying he isn't at fault, but I wasnt there and didnt witness the accident. From what i have read, none of you were there either. The thing is, all to often the general public sees an accident with a hot rod involved and guess who gets the blame. "He must have been showing off or driving wrecklessly" is too often the attitude in these situations. I would expect this kind of reaction for non rodders. I would hope that any rodder in this situation would at least get the benifit of the doubt from his fellow hot rodders.[RANT OVER]

this is why if you use seatbelts DONT attatch them to the frame like ive seen many people do. body comes off, and the belt cuts you in two. its a shame, i hope the guy comes out ok, even though hes the kind of guy that gives the rest of us a bad name, IF in fact he was driving foolishly, says he was going fast, but doesnt say how fast...but im sure MOST of us have done stupid reckless things at one time or another. just maybe not with these disasterous results.

Dude, that's bullshit. First off, the guy is seriously injured and you're acting like that's a good thing & that the real tragedy here the destruction of some glass bodied T. Secondly, no one "deserves" to be ejected from a car accident and land on his fucking head.

You know, if this guy was one of your loved ones, and some punk was telling you that he got what he deserved, and that the REAL shame was the car being damaged, you'd probably punch him right in the mouth (and he would deserve it).

I guess you've NEVER, EVER, EVER, taken a risk or done something dumb behind the wheel huh? Yeah, right.

  28. Thanks Meatball, Im glad you could brake it down to what I basicly thought.

  29. Most of us have been lucky we have never had to pay the price for a poor decision or bad judgement, but this poor guy will have to suffer the consequences of what happened to him. Rather than say "it can't happen to me", or "he's an idiot", we should all take a long hard look in the mirror before we pass judgement.

As I get older, I've found that my declining testosterone level has increased my intelligence exponentially when it comes to my driving behavior.

What if this guy is a member of the H.A.M.B.?
would you still feel the same?

If this guy was a thief, only then could I agree with your comment.
