I picked up a pair of spindles that I thought were the squareback 42-48s. Now I'm not so sure. I was going to use a Speedway bearing adapter set to use some 56 F100 hubs (was planning to mount the spindles on a late-40s Ford I-beam). So when I go to slip the inner bearing in place to check the fit, it's not even close. The ID on the Speedway bearing is 2 3/16" but the spindle needs 2 5/16 -- the same size at the bearing I pulled from the F100 hub. Anyone know if any 42-48 hubs had a spindle boss that would take the F100 inner bearing (#14130)? Or are my spindles something different? Rick
I'll get some pics up this evening. Yeah, I'm thinking F100 spindles, too. It looked like someone had already ground off the steering arm, which is why I first thought they were 42-48. You know how those swap meet finds can be. So now I'm wondering if I can use them on the 42-48 axle? I had also picked up one of those SSBrakes Royal King Pin sets that use needle bearings -- not cheap. I wouldn't want to get halfway through installing them to find out something was a quarter inch different and I couldn't use them. The spindles I have "look" like they would attach with no problem, but then I have learned that what "looks" OK doesn't always work when you actually start putting it all together. Rick
