These knobs flippin rule!

:)

16. I would like to hear a bit on what the mediums and methods are for this one.

Great show- a good variety. Whenever I see the motorcyclebike stuff it makes me think the Jockey Journalers would want to see it.

Thanks,
Kurt

There are some amazing artists here. I've never posted at the "art show" before.
Does graphic design count?
If so...

A while back Mark Morton asked me to design a slipcase for the first five Hop Up issues. Seems he unexpectedly found about 350 of out of print issues of the first 5 and thought it would be good to package them. He suggested the idea of louvers adorning the slipcase.

Thinking that was a great idea, I dove into my archives of various louver photos and started doing some rough layouts. I quickly realized I didn’t have the “right” louvers, so over the next couple of months I photographed louvers whenever I saw some. I shot louvers at the A.I. and at Bonneville and at Billetproof and just about anywhere I could find a gathering of punched steel. So, convinced that I had enough for a palette, I created another layout. Each side was a different louver from a different car. It looked really good… but it didn’t look really great. Something was bugging me.

Mark and I discussed the design and then the light bulb went off !!! Hey… less is more right? So I grabbed a clean piece of 18ga and headed over to Modern Louver Service. I gave him some specs, and after a couple of beers and several minutes, I had my perfect monochrome palette. I then photographed the punched panel and did some cloning and altering in Photoshop, added the Hop Up logo and finished the layout pretty much by our deadline.

So here they is… The long lost, desperately sought after first five issues and a slippery little case… numbered and signed no less.

If ya wanna get one of these sets, more info can be found at:

I have admired you guys' work for several years now. I'm an art director so I know how hard it is, especially for you guys who do it commercially as well. You all kick ass and inspire me weekly.
That said, I've been working on some stuff that is a little different and would love to see what you guys think of it. Thanks again!
