Great thread! I love all the pics. Here's a sign I drive past in Detroit every day on the way to work. Its at the intersection of woodward and 8 mile, hence the name.

Signs of Winter............Here are some photos of a neon boneyard at our town that has some real cool stuff. Nosurf and I went there and took these photos. He is standing next to the 76 sign and I am the one imitating Colonel Sanders. It was a balmy 18 degrees and we were on lunch break. It seemed warmer out there in the bright sun.

That was an excellent little sojourn.

Alot of cool history in there.

  8. This is a really cool thread. I didn't see anybody mention the signs from the movie CARS. You look closely when they are in town there are some cool ones. I have thoughts of creating the "Oil Pan" sign for my shop.

Back in the day, 50s & 60s, most of the Curvy edge signs were made with a "Pittsburgh seam" around the outside edge. The last one I made was back in the 80s. Now days most signs are made of Aluminum with welded seams. Just a little History! :)

I grew up in a town that had a Firestone plant on the North edge of town. I ain't that big of fan of 'Stones, but I always liked that BIG 'ol neon sign that you could see for a couple of miles on the interstate. I recently snapped some pics of the sign (which is still in neon, and they still maintain it, surpisingly!). I'll post pics of it after I get it off my camera. I seen the pics of the PBR brewery sign, and it made me remember my pics! Loving this thread!!!!

Said I'd post some pics when I got 'em off the camera, well.....Here's the pics. (Good thing too, cause the camera broke !!!)

This is taken just to the South of the Firestone plant in Des Moines, looking North along 2nd Avenue. For those that pass through Des Moines on I-80, heading to Omaha or KC, Mo., it's just south of the 2nd Avenue exit.

My brother-in-law has a pretty large, round Mobile Pegasus sign in great shape that he'll sell if anybody is interested. Probably around $300. This thing is about six feet in diameter. He also has a smaller one but won't let tha one go.

Anyone ever seen one of these? I would like to find another one and see what it would take to put neon on it. Don't know anyone around here that does that type of stuff. If I can't find another one it would be cool to have someone make a new one. This one is two sided and has a few chips but I have never seen another.

Ok, I'll bite. I scored sign this off ebay like 7 or 8 yrs ago for only $70..!!
shipping was about the same..!! it's about 7 feet long and about 18" tall...
it wasn't working when it arrived, but with a new transformer, new gas
or whatever, and new wiring....ta-dah..!!! the patina on it is perfect...
One of my most prized possesions....

  28. This thread lead to me ending up with this Chicago deli and bottle shop sign. I took some pictures around town of some old signs for this thread and a day later I noticed the H&H liquor neon letters had been replaced with some red plastic junk so I called the closest sign shop and they had done the work. I couldn't get the letters from him but he did have the Chicago sign that I could have if I would just get it out of there. Lucky it was less than a mile from my house so I tied it on the back of my RPU and drove very slowly down the alley. I love free Junk!

Reminds me of the time I brought the front engine dragster frame home hanging out the back of the Saturn station wagon:eek:

Too big for my place so it ended up at Savages shop.

These are the neon letters that were just replaced with red plastic:(

  30. There are quite a few cool old signs around Ventura, most people probably don't notice them.
