'39 Trans Experts - What does one weigh?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Harrison, Dec 18, 2007.

  1. Can anyone tell me what a '39 trans weighs - with a case full of gears?

Really, all I need to know is it it is more or less than 100 pounds.

    TIA, JH

Less. Heavy, but not painful...a one-aspirin moving job. I'd guess like 60?
Greater than 100, single hernia...200+, double...

  3. Harrison,

I weighed mine a couple of years ago when I was going to ship it to get an open conversion done. Seems to me it weighed in the 70-80 pound range. Definately not over a 100.

  4. Thanks guys. I have to ship this one & was wanting to get the guy a quote today but I'm at work & the trans is at home.

    Thanks, JH

A Merc crank is 75 lbs. I would say the trans is slightly lighter.

I sold one a few months ago, and I believe it was about 50 lbs. without the shifter top but including the box.

Just finished one, 39 Top loader, w/top, shifter, painted, ready to roll, complete w/open drive & yoke, but dry is just under 60lbs. I used the bathroom scale to check it! BOOM!
    I do enjoy helping.

Yeah, two regular cats, one fat cat, and a chihuahua. 60 seems just right.
Drag racer's tip: '39 knob has a hollow area, saving 3 grams over traditional '37-8 solid knob. All that comes right offa your ET!

Take the shifter tower off and ship it in 2 different boxes, its cheaper that way. I think UPS was about $75 to ship..... if that helps. We always make a box for the trans to ship it, the mounting flange is the weakest part and can crack if not packaged well.
