    Tom,
You've got some way cool stuff in your inventory. Not that you needed me to point that out but I'm just honing my skills in pointing out the obvious.

Thanks all for your kind words. These cars are a blast. The Stanley Steamer will be in the shop next week to assess. First will be to check the oil in the engine, and then put compressed air and watch it run! Then start cleaning the valves and pressure testing. And then, light it off!!

For some reason I don't have an overall loaded, but here's some pictures of one of the first Stanley Steamer cars that actually resides in the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado.

Hi,nice car! ,I hope you realise that Steam is serious stuff and not something you play with. I can't remember what pressure the Stanleys flash boiler runs at but the steam is an Invisible HOT gas as it is fed to the engine. If you are looking for leaks NEVER touch pipes etc and NEVER listen for them by sticking your ear next to pipes.
Get a stick with a piece of cloth tied to the end and pass it over the pipes and joins to check for leaks...and I'd seek the expert advice of a steam engineer before lighting it up. I'd hate to see that great looking car burn because of a Kero leak.:)

If you guys don't follow Jay Leno's site, guess what car he's featureing this week. Try Leno's Garage. Tom, did you find out who the thief was at Hershey?? Things are done a little differant on the HAMB then on the AACA site. If you tell us who the guy was I'll bet someone lives close enough to him to get your stuff back.

How many feet do you reckon you would chop out ?...:)

  21. The Stanley brothers actually started building steam cars in 1897. The history is a bit sketchy and somewhat colorful (wikipedia is a bit off- do tell), but the Stanley, Winton, early Locomobile, and McKay are all basically the same automobile- will try to get some better info from my father (he researched the history quite a bit). Neat automobiles and LOTS of power, just a little dangerous if the boiler blew...

  22. video of the above please

 NICE! Would you be willing to end the auction early on the grounds that you would like to DONATE the engine to a good cause?? :D

I wonder if a Hemi would fit under the hood in place of the boiler system in one of these cars?? Hmmmm....

...I'm definitely going to hell for that! :p

  24. Neat car. I would love to in the spring and look at your stuff if you are up for it Tom, the folks live up in NH and I get out that way every once in a while.

Love the LF cars they are beautiful.

  25. there are no documented cases of a Stanley boiler exploding. they were overbuilt and wrapped with piano wire for extra strength

my father has two Stanleys and a Locomobile which i later inherited ..they were a blast and i wish i still had one of them

Wish I'd known that when I was a kid. My Uncle had one and when he was bringing it up to temp the thing had a loud howl like a teapot from Hell. I was always convinced the thing was gonna blow up any minute and never got a ride in the car. Doh.

I think he said it was capable of like 75mph on the highway. That'd be a scary ride even without the howling.
