This project started when it began to rain a while back. Having to rush to the cars to cover engines sucks so I figured hoods were in order. First was the 40 which already had a stock hood but I never ran it. Here's an old pic with the mini-nose The stock hood was kinda beat up in the front part and there was a good sized gap between the grille, I ended up making an extension that overlaps the gap, and peaked it since the hood latch hole had been roughly filled before me. Its all steel with a skim coat of bondo which I wish I'd done another one before I painted it, things like that seem to stay like that for a long time! Nevertheless it rained the next day so I was glad to have it installed even rough. It was also good to put the hood trim on. There was a high chance of it getting destroyed where it was. So with the '40 more rainproof, I decided to tackle the roadster... TP Oh yeah anyone have the top trim piece?
The roadster is tricky cause it has the tall manifold. I thought about switching but its part of the car now. A hood bubble would be to tall so this is what happened. the vintage trailer shop I do side jobs at always has aluminum scrap, so the sheet is actually from an old Spartan. (the front bottom lip section was going to be shaped to the grille, but the scrap piece wouldn't fit that extra couple inches needed) This was just a start though to fix another problem. TP
so I started with this... and ended up with this by the end of the night. then the next night then the next one too... after that I could fit the hood cut out more precisely. TP
Can't see Sh&*t! But I'm sure it looks good. Hey, the roadster sounds good. Saw you last Wednesday going down Main toward your shop. Ken
than figured this for the tie-down. it held on the freeway, but i might make a rear one too. Of course a couple days later it started to sprinkle, so pounded out this thing which took alot longer than it looks. Now I'm thinking of how to do some custom aircleaners or aircleaner. TP I'll throw PBRAWWWS project up next...
Beautiful work. Looks like your house is restored too. That last photo could have been taken during WWII.
What does it feel like to be a true innovator? You crafty tinkerer you! Looks awesome in person. Love it!
