Has anyone here wired up a set of semaphores that work? How did you do it? Is there anything special to know. I haven't tried it yet.
...i've always wondered how they worked. i just read this..... http://www.mattsparts.com/resource/faq.htm -marty
hey kirk you might want to contact cfish50chevy. he mentioned he was working with them in this thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2238791&posted=1#post2238791
Normally the problem with them is that they are corroded up and seized. Back in the 70's a lot of cars still on the road down here had them and I made good money buying up old ones and soaking them in a bucket of CRC and getting them freed up. From memory the wiring was relly straight forward.
Not, if you live in the city. In the "countryside" it's different. You can frolic for houres, without seeing another car That sounded gay!!!
Notice lately theres one of these"words of wisdom" in every few posts ?? These are the super cool people who are so Anti- establishment that the don't care about getting rear ended,Yadayada!! I think the last few where"the only good hippie is a dead hippie" & " Seatbelts are for pussies" So now you can see the originallity in all them!!They also help us who are saying to themselves"Should i signal or not" You Have your answer right here!!! Fuck no i'm not going to be a pussy!! I want to be cool & not give a helpful answer to a legitament question!! Fuckin idiot!!! JimV
If you hook them up to the hazard switch will the car take off? A friend has them on his little Morris panel and he had people pulling on them at shows. Ruinned both of them. Clark
Mechanical turn signals,a small arm sticks out the side of the car. Used on early VW Beetles, and assorted English cars.
KIRK, With or without other directional signals? Are yours lighted? Semaphores are mechanical arms that come out ouf the body to signal a direction change. Jay
AHHH. I had a 51 Austin Drag car with the remains of those on it. Didn't know they had some weirdo name. I thought they were merely, lanechangestickmeouterthingies
i dunno..but the ones on my brothers 54 OVAL work great ..i dont think there is alot to them honestly as far as wiring goes,,,...i think its all in the semaphore mechanism

I think the English car semaphores are 12 volts, the Beetles are 6 volts. The English stuff should be easier to find, and cheaper. Might be positive ground.
The only time i heard that term before it was for an old railraod signal. I was begining to wonder if i was on the right board. Well that makes a lot more sense now.
