So we're thinking making some new parts and remaking some old ones here at Rally America and would like to know what you think. First, we would like to start remaking the first type of shannon cones that screw onto wheels. I picked up a few today at the turlock swap meet. Here's what type look like- On a wheel: With a spyder ring (I think this looks pretty good) Second, we might want to make shannon cones for smoothies but different from how they are now. We would make them how they were on apliance wheels, they are much smoother looking. On the Left is a modern cone, Middle is an apliance cone, and on the right is the bolt on type. Last we are pretty sure we are going to make a push through cone for early ford wheels with the 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern. Anybody think there is a market for any of this stuff? Jimmy
I like the Aplianc Shannons and those spider rings are cool. Shannon Cones always looked good on chrome wheels.
Yes, there's a market for them, I think you can get some in Lowrider mag, I wanted a set for my truck, but I'm running 40 rims and the repops wont work....Roach.
I just adapted some of these cones on out large 5'' pattern. Out of all the wheels around we could not find any that these cones fit on. I cut the inner ring off the smothies' baby moons and tig weld that ring to the cones.. Worked pretty good
King of Dice sells alot of made in China screw on bullets and cones. I don't know how far the market would stretch before people realized they could just buy a junk cap and screw on a bullet.
yeah that second pic with the trim ring is the money shot also I think there is a big market for anyhting for 5.5 bolt pattern wheels
the push through caps for the ford wheels i think would be great, aswell as spider caps in 5 on 5 and 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern.
I'm a fan. I ran em on a slammed 66 Le mans convertible with bellflowers and chrome wheels and they looked way cool. I ran the ones you pictured on the left. They looked cool but the quality was not that great. Rob.
I've always been a fan of them...Actually, i'm torn between running supremes or doing the cones on my 58..I dont have the money right now to make them look proper so i have to run the supremes wich will give you guys time to make the cones and me to come up with the money for them plus the wide whites...lolol Please do it... What about the Beehive type??
I actually had a set for my 49 chevy back in the late 70's.. always thought they were cool with the smoothy chrome rims. the spider ring is also very cool. way better than just the baby moon caps...
you should make those for sure. also, 15" and 16" portawalls. but in 3 inch wides, no one makes wide ones, at least not that im aware of....
I too have a set,and would purchase again in the future. With one stipulation......... If you are going to gear up to make them,or have them made..... go that extra bit and make them out of STAINLESS. The ones I have ,and have seen, have super shoddy chrome on them, and the rust begins to blossom on them in six months or less, especially on the "snap on " style, where the outer part is folded over the inner retainer ring. The screw on style I would buy,if made from stainless.
Spider caps for 5 x 5.5" would be highly recommended, the bullet caps are always cool but ford pattern spiders would be wicked.
I really liked the shot with ring, and would second the request for a quality piece, whatever style you go with.
Jimmy, just curious how these differ from the 5 inch bullets that you'll be sending to go with those kick-ass smoothies you made for me?
Wheel Kid.. good talking to you on Saturday. Can't wait to get my wheels. Make a quality set of SUPREMES and the world will beat a slow& low path to your door.
Not to change the subject, but the "spyder ring" in the second photo is what we could really use. As far as I know, only vintage Cal Custom units are available, and for big bucks ???....
