One of my best buddies was a marine with an all American indian detatchment that operated in Southeast Asia during Nam. We never got tired of giving each other crap about our respective services. His brother had been a corpsman attched to the marines over there, so he was always kinda stuck in the middle of our little bashes.

He'd make squid and taxi service cracks, and I'd remind him that much like bananas, marines are green in color until they hit the beach, then they turn yellow. Our friend Pat had his Bradley blown out from under him during Desert Storm - we figured that was bad enough without us giving him hell.

Does Navy brat count? Dad was a submarine captain, torpedoed my mother, and I breached to the surface at the Groton sub base hospital.

  7. Interesting thread none the less. Did not read through all 4 pages, but one of our Orlando Rumblers, "D.J." is still in the Navy. He is stationed out of Kings Bay Naval Submarine base, St. Mary's GA. His Hamb name is "Zor" if you want to send him a PM. I believe he is out to sea right now. He has a bunch of cool Hot Rod projects patiently awaiting his return home.

damn lowclass 11bravos.... who taught them how to type?
six years US Navy from 1982-88 little side trip to a swampy stinky place called Ft Benning for a little R-and-R and a marksmanship medal the Navy couldn't figure out how i should wear....... ANYWAY
spent six years with some of the best (and worst) people i've ever known; had opportunities offered to me (and stolen!) that out in the WORLD i never had; absorbed lots of knowledge without meaning to; gained loads of insight as to how things work, mechanically and philosophically: in all, i had a good time and wasted all my pay every time i had the chance.
lost a Marine acquaintance who had transferred to Beirut in '83 in the bombing; he was a strack kid; sharp as a tack.
i hope the present day Navy has overcome the problems i encountered with issues of prejudice in the '80's. nuff said.

That sure looks good, don't it? I retired this past September. Twenty years was a long time.
The check (and bennys) I'll get for the rest of my life ought to make up for it all...
