I read a story about an old timer that FISHED for RATS in alleys in NYC...he used hotdogs as bait, and said when caught these little bastards they put up one hell of a fight....SO I went into downtown PITTSBURGH last night and used a fishing rod to fish for RATS behind dumpsters...it was fun, but I would rather be fly fishing in MONTANA...

I like it. And i'm sure that you do too. Just remember in order to be insulted by someone, you have to respect their opinion. So build it your way and the rest of them can go to .... where ever they end up.

This is the second time in two days my "first impression" was wrong. When I first read your post and looked at your truck all I could see was the "rat" in it - and I thought you were just another of the "don't get it" gang that thinks rust is nature's primer.

As I kept reading thru the posts and read your second one responding to SamIYam my opinion changed. I went back and looked at the truck and actually saw the work you'd done on it...not just the rust.

Good luck...keep up the good work.

don't spend your day worrying about what other people think - its what you like to do with your vehicle that counts. Cool truck!

When my old pal Lumpy#1 got his 27 Sedan registered at the DMV the lady gave him the state registration sticker for the door jamb she said "here I'll let you put it on, I don't want to cause anything to fall off" funny stuff!! We've got to get over it because the public doesn't have a clue and now a days everything in primer is a rat rod.
All the thumbs up as you drive along make it all worth it.:D

Are you sreiously asking for our opnions? Or just needing a little re-affirmation here?

Like the others have said, get a thicker skin. They are only approaching you and talking to you about cause its neat and different. If they meant bad, they would say it quietly to their friends, then take a pic and bash it here on this site with pictures of Boyd.

Its a nice truck, all be it a little ratty. Build a bridge, get over it.

My shit is ratty too (whatever that means). Build it like you like it. If ya really want our opnions, ask them straight up, not as a rant complaining about Joe Q Public's comments. Ligit Complaints of the public would include them climbing on it, touching it, letting kids climb on it, perhaps them hopping on the running boards to get a better look inside (had that happen at a stop light.... HeHe).

You could do it 100% body work and paint and Shoot it Candy and someone will still say "hey cool rat rod" or "Look at this rat rod over here" You just gotta suck it up and stick with what others say haha I was gonna leave mine rusty and I even took the time to rust up my patch panels to make them fit the look but then said you know what why put all that time and money into a piece of rust that some one would see and say what a piece of sh*t when its just going down the highway so I broke down and went the extra mile with full body work and soon to be painted semi-flat blood red with a midnight black chassis. You should just do the same with yours since youve already gone this far.

It isn't finished yet so who cares what it looks like now, it's what it looks like in the end that matters. If some asshole makes some smartass coment ignore him or tell him to shut the fuck up!

  18. I was still in grade school when I stopped giving a shit what people said or thought about me or the things I wore/owned/drove, when I was old enough/etc. - who cares what people call it, leave the drama for the soap operas and people who read the National Enquirer. It's not worth the time to get bent out of shape over something so stupid.

Man, there sure are some people that like to hear themselves talk. Same points over and over. We've beaten this to death. Let this thread die.

    As for my opinion?

WHAT FREAKIN' DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?

    ZERO

Just drive with a grin on your face and enjoy it. People will think you are up to something.

Who cares? I was in posession of my roadster for all of five minutes today when I stopped to gas up the truck. Some scrub rolls by on his 10 speed and says "Cool man, gonna make a rat rod out of it?" I said "Yup" and walked in to pay for my gas. End of conversation. I'm not too concerned with the opinions of uninformed people I'll most likely never see again.

Man, I get the same thing with my coupe. People see all the holes from the stainless being removed. Who cares. Drive it and love it. Most are just jealous cause they don't have the guts to actually do something as cool as breathing new life into old iron that was condemned to crush or rot away.

Like was stated before, don't care so much about what others say. After all who did you build it for?

Dude- I think we got the same mind frame on "RAT ROD". I consider a rat rod to be some random parts thrown together with no thought as to fit, function or style. A couple sticks of 2x4 tubing hap-hazardly stitched together with various parts meant to somewhat resemble a car do nothing for me.

I take offense to someone labeling my truck a "rat Rod" as if me spending under 10K on it makes it less impressive otr less of a rod. *** I really should remember not to give an F' what anybody else thinks.***

We at about the same point of our builds, with very similar projects--Rock on man!!

It looks like there is some excellent work in that truck...but it also looks like some old "ratty" tin is being preserved. Can't a "RAT" rod be well built? To me it just means that you've used some ratty parts, it doesn't mean that your whole car is ratty.

Just like HOT rod....it's a broad category. Your truck does fit into it right now and it might still when you are done. It's not an insult unless it comes from someone who KNOWS it irritates you.

  26. What a lot of you guys don't know is that there was a time when the term "Hot Rod" was a derogatory term.

Some day guys with RAT RODS will lighten up and come to grips with the fact that what they have built, is just that.

Let it go... it's just a name.

    Sam.

I dig it! you did a good job of creating some lines for the truck and have proportioned it well. People are always gonna say stupid shit. Most probably don't know that they are offending. Of the ones are trying to be assholes, 80% of them have the fabrication skills of a 2 year old and a big mouth to match. Skrew'em!

As long as you're proud of the work you've done what's it matter what other people say. Besides, they probably drive a jelly bean and the most work they've ever done to it is to change the oil and rotate the donughts.

If it's just a street rod, then yeah, doesn't make much difference what general population thinks....as long as you're happy and enjoy it, then that's all that matters. But if you're going show-car level, then yes, you need to listen to specialists such as on this forum. You need to have a clear goal of where you want to go with this car and what it will take to get there. Don't find yourself saying "I wish I had" 5 years down the road. (An example might be deciding not to sand-blast the chassis, then getting an expensive paint job). Do it right the first time, and don't get in a hurry.

    Sorry, don't mean to preach!
