Was putting the rusty front bumper back on the fleetline and making new brackets when I noticed its pretty close to the ground. I have about 4" of clearance from the front bumper to the ground....

Its the lowest part on the car and I have a suspension with full stock travel. The car is channelled a touch.

My wife's '58 is 2 3/4", at the lowest point of the dummy lakes. And it's a girl's car!:)

(it does have air shocks on the back so she can get in the garage)

I am going to be sanding down the bondo next week and hopefully will have my new distributor. I need to get some more of that brown rustoleum to keep the car looking the same for now...just with less rust. I am looking at painting it, just don't what color yet.

The passenger side quarter panel is mostly fixed now. Need to get the bondo all smooth where the patch panels meet the original panels...

Maybe get some pictures then...I just haven't had the time.

Too low is defined by alot of things. How stiff the springs are, if the crossmember is lower than the oil pan, the wheelbase, exhaust configuration, where you drive, and how you drive. It's something you really gotta feel out on an individual basis. Sounds like you're in the ballpark though.

4 inches is about right...at least it is on my car...it goes down the highway real well and doesn't dig out rocks buried in the cement...any lower on the front end and you're going to have trouble negotiating dips and railroad trax...if your oil pan is below that, you probably aren't going to run the highways at 75 mph for too long...shredded truk tires laying in the road will show you that real easily...

    That's my 13 cents worth...

amen brother! Just build it to grind, and bob's your uncle. My truck is 2.5" off the ground at its lowest point, and I drove it all the way to paso (5 hrs each way) and back with not one freeway or road scrub. I have no air/hydos. driveways are a different story hahaha.

You might be surprised at how much damage a dead animal can do to the underside of a car.

Cleaning up racoon isn't fun either.

I'd say you don't want your frame or anything important to be lower than the height of the side wall of your tire. Imagine blowing a front tire on the highway doing 75 and your frame is scraping on the floor and your rim isn't touching... That could get dangerous!

My flatty powered '34 Ford pickup was 3" off of the ground at the door bottoms and I had no problems. Just have to be sensible about how/where you go i guess.

The running boards on my old truck had 65000 miles on the at under 3 inches...I couldn't get my foot under past my shoelaces. The suspension was all tucked up high though...the rest of the truck was above scrubline!

If you knock over a beer can driving over it, you're just right!

Think of it as a railroad cow catcher. Get low enough and the dead animals won't get under the car to begin with. :)

If you get stuck on the road then you are too low. Speed bumps are not a problem if you know how to take them

Its being built as a daily driver for the summer. With the channel, the lowest part is the bumper.

my car is three quarters of an inch off the ground, static drop.

My lowest point is 4", before it's loaded with people. Static Drop.... I have very little clearance on the lower control arms to the frame apparently...only about 1". She's not 'pothole' friendly.
