The 350 uses a 2.10" rod journal as compared to a 2.00" for the 283, so I guess the answer would be no. Bob
If your idea is that they'd be stronger than a 283 rod, look for rods from a '66-'67 327. They're slightly beefier than the earlier rods.
They made large journal 302's in '68-'69. A 283 or a 302 Chevy has a stokke of 3.00 inches. The 302 only came in the Z-28, so they are a bit rare and costly.
the 68 69 -302 crank will not fit a 283 block due to crank journal diameter differences . In '67 the first 302" was different than the later ones. I am not positive ,but I think it involved a small journal crank, someone know the difference? BTW A 283 crank in a 327 BLOCK would not net 302" it would produce 301".
Thank guys for the help. I need replacement ones for the engine and I can seem to find any, butI can find a lot of 350 rods. Any clue where I can find some for a decent price?
If you want basic stock rods, here's one option: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SLP%2DR18AD&autoview=sku These are simply rebuilds. You may find that your local machinist can either redo your original rods (if you have 'em, not sure whether you are starting from scratch), or obtain a small journal set from his sources, cheaper than Summit. Rock Auto.com is about the same price. Small journal rods aren't as common these days & are higher than large journal parts. The other place to check with is here: http://www.pawinc.com/ They remanufacture a lot of parts. I don't have a current ad for them (check Car Craft, etc.), & prices aren't on the web site, so you'll need to call. A set of rebuilt SBC rods used to be around $110 or so. Some people like PAW, some people hate them...my experience with their machine work has been that it isn't bad, good enough for mild builds. I wouldn't go to them for a $25,000 engine, but that's a different story. If you want aftermarket rods, they are obtainable from any number of places- Summit, PAW, CNC Motorsports, etc., & I'd bet some of our Alliance vendors have 'em too.
