I've always felt this one speaks for itself. It's such a timeless picture: taken in 1952 but because of the style of the car and the blank canvas of the Salt Flats it could be any time from the mid-twenties to the present. Plus the car itself is the epitome of an early Ford hot rod. With slight changes to wheels, windshield and engine it could have fit in at any rod run in any era. I'll take it as she sits, though.

Was that a Monza F/C that Willie drove? The story goes that he got involved with Walt Knox from Walt's Auto Parts in Inkster, MI. During the F/C years he was quoted as saying "...I live for the burnouts, man..." and was reportedly a lot of fun to be around in those years. That being the case, and if it was a Monza, the car is still around but re-painted in Walt's colors albeit in pieces around his warehouse. If anyone can corroborate (sp?) this story I'd appreciate it. I always thought he just drove for Walt's Auto Parts for a few races but ya never know. I've been in the warehouse a few times and it would make a born gearhead cry the things just laying around on shelves and such.

Fast Elvis - Where was that first picture taken? The jacket has Valve Lifters on it, were they affiliated to the Push Rods? I would love to learn more about the Windsor area hot rod history. I would think there would be alot of history in the area.

  22. Think about how mean a tiger or cat looks when its pissed and the ears are laid back and the eyes "mean business"...and combine it with the plain texture of the skin and the stance of a brahma bull...that whole attitude thing....this car reminds me of that.

My reaction exactly. For me, seems to capture the essence of the altereds, fire, smoke, speed, maybe a little sideways, nothing but a blur when in motion. Makes me feel warm in my happy place:D
Unfortunately, I don't know who or where to give credit for the photo.

cool thread! i'll add my 2 cents in here, it's been a while since i've been kicked off. hahahaha

not only are these 3 great cars, but the guys that own and drive them are top notch cats too. the first one is xderelict's lakes modified. (version 5b-1a,4) i have been lucky enough to ride in this thing and i can tell ya, it's a trip! it does have one little rattle in it. :D
i found a picture of 2 of my other favorite cars side by side. this is hiboy32's coupe sitting with hotrod roadster's car one day at live fast over in iowa. i'm sure a lot of you guys know of jeff's coupe. it was chopped with a trailer, tow vehicle, and a parking garage. he'll drive that thing anywhere, anytime, beat the crap out of it and drive it back home. you have never lived until you have seen jeff run the cones in that thing. he has sparks flying off the door handles and blood from his knuckles in his teeth grinnin' ear to ear.
the last one on my list is gary's roadster. it's bad, it's loud, and it can put parts into space way quicker than NASA. i've seen it put a pulley on the moon from downtown omaha in less than 1/2 a second. i always dig a blast down maple street in that roadster. maybe some day it will join my plymouth in the "track". oh ya, "that" track, GARY!!!!
now i know one of these cars is owned by a TURD and the other two are ROAD BURNERS, but we will let that slide this time!

i forgot to add my #1 ride to this thread. she aint no no hot rod but she'll go anywhere at any time. 6 volt, flat 6, 3 on the tree. keep the blow by out of the cap and make sure the screws on the carb are tight and i'm good to go. after a whole summer of out of town trips, daily driving, and pulling my camper, me and a six pack of red bull and 6 hours of jagermeister decided to put 500 miles on her to get to the hamb drags in the rain. i gave out before the plymouth did. she still ran the 500 miles and got me home. mustang 2 and a SB chevy??? no chance. i love my flatty plymouth!!

oh ya, before i get any slack from anybody, the road burners plaque on my bumper has been replaced by duct tape and HOOD RATZ lettering. i don't play bingo.
