Does anyone know who made this one or is there a Hamber out there who is interested in making a few?

  3. Lucky 7 and Unkl Ian have both told you where to find that cap.

The pic you have is of a Halibrand cap made for Indy cars in the 50's.
I have made several copies over the years. Most of mine have been smaller
for hot rods....5 in. overall dia. and a 3 inch hole.
I don't have a CNC machining center so I have to make them by hand....
The latch mechanism is tricky to get the cam so it will overcenter lock
properly...One too many strokes of the file and you start over.

I can tell you that it takes one day to make one and you know what shop rates are.
    Email me any questions.

  6. I have patterns I made from an original - haven't gotten around to reproducing as the mold cost from the foundry was substantial - too much for just one gascap! If anyone will confirm interest in copies I may have some made. Keep in mind the original I used to make the patterns from was cast aluminum so it has beautiful, inherent flaws characteristic of a vintage cast piece - not perfect like new billet stuff. The latching mechanism was cut from aluminum plate (probably by hand) but I had planned to laser it from stainless - what does everyone think? Also, the original cost me BIG $$ - I expect the cost of repros to be in the $200 range. Let me know what you all think.

    Thanks,
    Steve

I put a Mocal Aston 2.75 cap with the lock from BAT on my 32 roadster a couple of years ago. It is a great unit and the lock is a neat option since I mounted it on the rear deck behind the cockpit where it is easy to open by the curious. The cap functions well and is easy to clock to the point where you want it to open at with the supplied washers. The customer service at BAT was very helpful and they recommended the parts that I needed to complete the installation. They sent the wrong cap initially due to a packing error but made the correction quickly and as painlessly as possibly. I'd post a picture but I ain't smart enuff.
