so far i've found out the cab is 41-46 and the frame is 36-40? is there a way i can figure out the exact year? i already tried the VIN decode off stovebolt.com... didn't work it said it was a 1950... any others that you might know about?
That is a 38 to 42 cab. look at my photo album for 360* views of mine. If there are X shaped beads rolled in the firewall, it will be a 40 to 42. The 42 model cab was used up to 46 due to WWII. That frame is much earlier. Tommy is in the ball park.
Round gauges in 38/39 and rectangle in 40 & up. Here's the best source to get specific. http://www.oldchevytrucks.biz/catalog4/00004.htm
The Firewall has the "Xs" stamped into it so that means its a 41 and newer cab. the dash is rounded with a square gauge cluster.
after checking that web site... the truck is probably 42-46 the right outside door lock is below the handle.
yeah I noticed that after my prior comment that side shot of the fire wall is sort of funky how it v's also it seems that your missing raingutters?? unless its just the pic/my eyes
are you positive? bc i'm not... the motor and mounts didnt look like there was any fabrication or custom install of a six it looked factory. also i measured the frame end to end it was 150.5 inches and axle to axle 105.5 inches if that helps.
the frame is a 29 car frame truck frame was just flat defetly 29 cuz it was the first year of the stovebolt 6
Relay this cab is no older than 39 I belive it did not come on that frame I have a 38 and it has lines up and down the fire wall and a less of a v on the side were the hood mounts it is some were between 39-41 you might be able to find out for sure on the stovebolt page or try the filling station website they deal with all old chevs all day &night they have suttle differences between 1/2t and 3/4 sizes too!!
36,37,and 38 if I am not mistaken (do not know if 38 did a 1/2 year) have smooth fire wall and one solid flat windshield the pic is of my 37
There is also a difference in the fuel neck between a 42 and a 46. The 42 should be leather and in 46 it will be rubber. Another good way to narrow it down would be to remove your headliner braces and see if the back side is olive drab or not. The olive drab still could have been used on a 46 though as a left over.
I'm positive, they developed the frame for the new stovebolt six, which was to be introduced in 28,but was delayed till 29.the headlights & bar also confirm 29.I compared your measurements to my stock frame, they're the same.Good referance book for these early Chevys,A Pictorial History of Chevrolet 1929-1939 by John D.Robertson,he worked for GM Media Archives.I still have my original six too.The frame didn't change till 33 when wheelbase became 110"
