Came across an 8 incher that's the right width for my machine. One problem, it looks like an axle bearing ran dry and scored the outer race where the bearing fits in the housing. Anyone know how much wear in this area is okay? Can the outer race be replaced?

    Thanks

do you mean the housing end? if the housing end is worn enough that the bearing can move around, you probably need a new end put on....figure about half the work of shortening a housing

    Thanks guys!

My terminology sux! The worn part is the housing bore that the bearing fits into. The bearing doesn't seem to be loose, but the bore is definitely scored and worn.

scoring won't hurt, but wear might if the bearing can move around in the bore.

If it's still a reasonably snug fit, dont' worry about it. but you might check the retainer plate to make sure it's straight

I'm with squirrel - as long as the bearing fits snugly, you'll be fine.

I've even seen some temp-fixed with dimpling/knurling
