These two car caught my eye in Daytona. Both could be really cool cars but missed the mark on a few things.

First the T....I liked a lot about this car but a few things just make it wrong in my eye. It was for sale and I tried talkin a few people into buyin it so they could fix it. Fixin is simple....get rid of the mailbox, change the headers, smaller tires up front and taller out back. Maybe move the headlights a little forward but that's just nitpickin.

Next is the Torino?? Sorry I don't know sixties cars that well. I walked past this car and my first thought was what an abortion. The headlights are so wrong. Next time past it I noticed a few cool details.

The car has a heavy nascar influence. Check out the fenderwells. I really dug the filler panel between the quarter and the bumper. The more I looked at it the more I liked it! Change the headlights to a flip light like the Daytona's and Superbirds and this would be a killer car.

I hope I don't offend the owners. This isn't meant to cut them up it's just to show two cool cars that could be really cool!

Not a huge fan of the blue/grey car altogether.

On the other hand I think if you just lost the mailbox and maybe changed tires, the purple one would be fine.

Ya I saw that in one of the threads. There were two cars with mail boxes. I hate it when people try to make there car look like a pice of s--t on purpose. Useing a mail box on your winter beater would have been something you did when you were 16. Other than that the purple car wouldent be half bad with some bigger tires in the back.

  5. I thought the mail box meant he was living in his car. :D

I saw the same cars, and even was thinking much the same thing, the "T" being 4sale,I finely desided that uglyass mailbox on it must of been the guys way of getting it noticed for selling it,as no one in there right mind I know would do that to that nice a rod other wise. I liked the headers OK for store got.
As for the other kind of sort of speedway car,I'm 65 and flat paint on anything turns me off like rust dose, and like the word RAT(the only flat paint was befor you got it good for putting on the shin,it was never ever a finel finsh on rods in 50/60s,so still just looks like a very un complete car ,plus mixed style as he was trying needs more hard work to blend then I saw there, the way I think! But then there is little things I like about every rod and stuff I don't. Yet the best part of rodden is the way most do it there way and don't just make copys,so there is always cool stuff showing up! With all the cool cars there, still was a few ratty things too,but then those are rolling piles of part to be fix by someone later on,RITE?

I've never seen a car I wouldn't change something on. The T is pretty neat as-is, I'm bettin' the mailbox was just on there to get attention, not being serious.

The other thing is interesting, I see where he was going with that, I agree that some different headlights, or maybe just a big flat smoked cover panel for the lights and grille in there would really make that look Daytona/Superbird-esque. I'd hardly call it an abortion, it's a neat idea.

Squab..I guess abortion was a harsh word. I just didn't like it at first glance.

I'd be willing to bet that the 'T was built by someone else and the new owner added that stupid mailbox. It really needs some Radirs/Cheaters and some new pipes.........I hate those Sprint Car style headers.

I have come to the conclusion that the Mailbox scoop is a new Florida Trend. there were way to many at the show to no be.. How did that become cool or traditional.. (they were all on cars that had a nostalgic feel.. some were rat rods, but others were like the T clark showed)

Clark, thanks for grabbing a shot of the car we talked so much about. I never got one. Oh hope the trip home was good.

  12. Ford did make a Nascar Ford Torino Talladega but its not as streamlined as that. I imagine thats the look they were going for.....

Did you peck on the fenders of that Torino?

From the pics, I'm getting a heavy vibe that the custom parts on that car are made out of chicken wire and Bondo.

The hood doesn't look to fit very well that's for sure.

    .....but I wasn't there...so I can't say.

there were a few late 50s early sixties drag cars that did indeed use mailboxes for scoops. One I can remember was a fuel injected 33 Willys coupe MABEY and its a BIG mabey they think that they are recreating that look

I think the Canadians started the whole mailbox thing :)

Ting...I think it was metalwork. Not 100 percent sure. The hood was just sorta layin there when I took the pic. I would bet the guy works or worked at a nascar shop.

Boones...it was great hangin out with you again. Maybe you just needed a little help from the captain.

The least he could have done was have a linkage to open and close the mailbox depending on throttle location?????

I'm still checking but I think Ford was planning the next gen Talledega to be something close to what is shown there, but then Nascar went and banned the wingeed warriors, nose cones and all.

If I find it I will post it.

The purple thing reminds me of something I passed up this summer. some old guy in Illinois wanted 5 ka for a sbc in a shortend shoebox frame with a glass t body, painted purple. Had to remove the back seat cushion to get behind the wheel and it was mighty rough, but might have been fun for about a grand....................... maybe.

Yeah! It's a way to have a mobile mailbox that can be driven to the States so we can save on shipping charges...

That Torino has Taurus headlights. Yuck!

But not nearly as bad as the Real 1970 Torino King Cobra. This was supposed to put the Daytonas and Superbirds down, until NASCAR cracked down on engine displacement in the aero cars.

I think they made two of these, but this article may disagree with me. Wouldn't be the first time.

I still think a Boss 302 in the King cobra would make up for brick aerodynamics and a BB.

Still if the King was what the guy was going for he should have cannibalized a 260Z car and some sheet metal.
