With a Bull, with luck you can get off, the Dragster you have to ride it out. My first trip at 180 and chute didn't open, I had quite the ride. That story will be told soon, with video !

Marty, I've got a funny towing to get one started story too!
Back in 1971 and fresh home from the military I was looking for a car and bought a running, driving '55 Chey 150 business coupe with a six and I had a 283/4 speed from my wrecked Chevelle I was going to put in it. I did my first full build on the short block and had Dick Ott build up a pair of 1.94 camel hump heads and bolted them on the block. The engine was really tight once assembled, so we decided to pull it to get it fired up and just drive it to breakin the cam. My dad supplied his '59 Chev pickup, and my neighbor said he'd sit on the front fender and tweak the distributor as I sat in the driver's seat.
Dad took us down the street slowly and when I let the clutch out in 2nd gear it began turning over. My buddy yelled to give it some gas as he tweaked the distributor. When it caught the '55 leaped forward towards dad's truck, and my buddy went towards the windshield. I panicked and hit the clutch and brakes at the same time causing the tow chain to snap and tossing my buddy off the front. He hit the ground on his feet, ran back to the passenger door and yelled for me to keep the rpm's up! He unhooked the chain from both vehicles, and off we went for a 20 minute ride until we had the cam broken in. It was hilarious, and still can't believe nobody and no cars were injured!

  6. Chain in a pipe sounds like a good idea. But if the chain became disconnected from the towing vehicle it could ruin the day of the driver in the vehicle being towed. Kind of like breaking the front u-joint at speed and having the propshaft flopping around under the car.

But that was the part that a teenager would overlook! And 99.99 % of the time no problem! But oh that 0.01%, that’s what we all lived for! And now we look back at it and chuckle!
