If the guy was a bodyman surely he'd do a better job than that, now you really need to know the paint code.
Pardon my ignorance as we only got 4 door sedans here in Australia but is that called a 2 door sedan as distinct from the coupe which has the longer back end and a smaller cockpit? BTW when you were here in Oz did you get educated that we call these Twin Spinners and the 49 and 50's are Single Spinners Great car with the paint, chrome and interior perfect for a daily driver. Congrats.

Amateurs! This is the exact application that rollers were made for…

Yes, it’s called a two door sedan. And, guess I never heard the twin or single spinner terms specific to these. To be honest, not sure I even saw many of these either.

And, she couldn’t find the paint can anywhere. So, I may be on my own trying to match the paint. It is definitely single stage, but not even sure the type of paint either. What she said was that he matched the original color which is probably a good place to start.

must have been running short of paint...and why she can't find a can....
you are supposed to let it run all the way to the bottom and then trim it off with a razor blade
but now you have the original color to compare it to right next to the repaint

Yep, I might have been guilty of the "run it off and cut it off" method previously as well. And, to be honest, some of my early paint jobs likely didn't look much different than this on the rockers either. I just saw it as somewhat funny more than anything. I can't knock the guy. He likely painted this car when he was either in his late 60's or early 70's and wasn't really ever a painter. He did production type bodywork for years, but someone else made the cars shiny again. :D

Looks good! So, seems like the Aerostars don't lower the front of these as much as they did my 56. I assume some folks cut some off the springs or maybe use the springs and lower a-frame blocks to get them lower? I need to go find that Aerostar spring thread and read through it apparently.

Agreed Ben. Just added that to my growing list of things to address. I noticed that last night and thought the same thing. I have also never been a fan of those "repair" ends. I can typically get pretty nice cables cheap at work since we buy so many for equipment. Sometimes I even get lucky and find several in the scrap tub. That's how I recently replaced all the cables on my golf cart that we use to feed animals, etc...

A little OT to this thread maybe, but I had a thought the other day related to this car and the fact that my wife works at a nursing home. I have always sort of wondered if it might make sense to go hang out there sometimes and maybe even take folks for rides? Guessing there is a whole liability deal associated with that making it nearly impossible. Anyway, just a thought. I know lots of folks in the nursing home rarely get visitors or a reason to even go outside. I know I always get comments on my cars from the staff at the nursing home that my FIL is in. I would even show up in my 50 Buick to take my FIL to doctors appointments, etc. He seemed to enjoy it.

If nothing else, get a few friends together and make a cruise to the nursing home. The staff would likely be happy to make it an event for the residents to be able to see the cars.
I used to do this with the car club I was in, and the people in the homes loved it.

The Aerostar springs gave me a 2 1/2” to almost 3” drop in the front. I used the MOOG brand with the 2”dropped shocks

I saw somewhere that maybe 5821 was the Monroe shock number? Pretty sure that was the same on my 56 as well.

About the liability, it it's a nursing home and the patients aren't able to handle their own affairs, the management might frown on your idea. However, if it's a retirement home, where the retirees are able to go and do things, it might work. I like your idea, maybe you might find some old gal with a lot of money and nobody to leave it to who will adopt you. Always think positive;).

I do t know if you can see that well on the picture but with 670-15’s the front tires are just a tad bit into the fender wells (27” to the opening) image.jpg image.jpg so it sits way lower than the other shoebox that was shown. The rear wheel openings are 19” from the ground to the edge of opening

I have been a "shoebox" guy since 1957. I have also lived in Minnesota most of my life, and in my opinion, that "rocker panel shot" is the most impressive shoebox picture I have ever seen.:D

He tried to retire but then a young guy came back to town that had worked for him before and got him back to work. I think he would ultimately love to sell the business, but not sure he can ever really slow down either. Not sure what his latest business model is, but he was just dropping axles and selling what he had in inventory. He wasn’t necessarily taking orders. But, not sure the latest on that. I just know that when he was talking about retiring, I went ahead and picked up the dropped axle for my Mercury. :D

The young guy that is working for him now just bought a 54 210 that I checked out yesterday. Then, he came by today since I had several 54 parts I told him he could have to keep him motivated on his new toy. We have to encourage these young guys as we all know or this hobby may die someday. :D

Our car club regularly gets invited to go to 'rest' homes or 'retirement homes' with our cars. The residents really enjoy seeing the old cars and talking about the cars that they had in the past. We have even given some of them rides when they ask. We are usually there for a couple of hours and the staff often brings some of the residents out in wheel chairs. Hope you get to take some of your cars to the place that your wife works, it would brighten the day of the residents.
