Couple questions i have on front axle kits. Is spring behind axle better than spring over axle? Also Tube or I beam? Seems i can only get tube for spring behind axle. Link bars, wishbone or single solid rod?

  3. My opinion only. I beam is the Right look if you're building a Hot Rod. Tube Axles are for Gold Chain Street Rods. Where the Spring mounts has a Ton to do with how the Chassis sits. If you're going serious low and for the least amount of Framework, go with spring behind. Obviously, you will be hand building everything to do with mount points. Spring on top will make a taller stance unless you step the front section of the frame. This is where we decide the overall look we want and then do the Math to get there. The actual parts don't mean much related to just doing the steering job.

  4. P.S. Do not buy a cast Axle! Forged only!

Ok just wasnt sure if one had better ride quality, plan on building full frame with a ride height of 6 inches off ground. Front and rear kickups will be determined by tire size and spring setup, 4 link with Coilovers most likely in rear. Thanks for the advice

  6. Ride quality is determined by total spring length "end to end or eye to eye". Longer is softer action. Short is a little choppier. Many years ago, Peat-n-Jake printed a handbook that gave good info on setting up Beam axles and verity of connecting links including steering gear choices. If this is something new to you, I highly recommend finding a copy. If you fish enough most of that info is on here. It will keep you from making the same old mistakes first time builders often make and tend to accept saying it's just how Old cars are. Not true! Beam Axles can be a pleasure to drive without a Death Grip on the wheel. It's all about building it right the first time.

Just a regular P&J catalog. Not sure if there’s any Chevy stuff in there though.

  10. How about making it a chopped sedan delivery

  11. Like alchemy said, P&J don't do much crossover Ford to Chevy unless you can make the targeted Ford Street Rod parts work for ya.
You don't need to go find it, just Google https://www.peteandjakes.com/ and download the PDF file. It's all right there.
